The First Bulwark Regiment

February 1886

Dawn

20 Men scuttled through the trenches like little rats under the cover of the night, these men are just some under the supervision of Crispulo, they were the ones assigned to knock out the Spanish Guards that are responsible for scouting the fields and reporting if something is amiss. There are also 100 of his men that are currently stationed on different parts of the trenches, especially those parts where the artillery and the nordenfelt guns are stationed, once the signal went out, they will immediately kill those artillerymen and destroy the artilleries and machineguns to pave the way for the Revolutionary Order to come and annihilate these hijo de putas.

On the other hand, 10,000 Filipino Revolutionaries are currently stationed in the western front, armed and waiting under the dim moonlight, ready to crawl out of the trenches and covertly traverse the battlefield littered with corpses, they will be the vanguard that will enable the Revolutionary Order to gain an upperhand in the upcoming battle.

On the Eastern and Middle Fronts on the other hand are currently being handled by Sergio, to immediately attack at a moment's notice to serve as a decoy and keep the pressure off of the western front, this will take the attention of the commanding officers of the enemy and is also a vital part of the plan.

Mauricio is currently on the western front too, preparing with the men for the charge, he is currently using an MG42 as his weapon and he is wearing a custom made helmet and a steel bib body armor given to him by his son Renaldo. Beside Mauricio are his most trusted men, each and everyone of them are also wearing steel bib body armor, they number about 1000 men including Mauricio and are called by Renaldo as the First Bulwark Regiment, Mauricio and most of his men are very honored to fight as members of this regiment, at first, Mauricio wasn't included in this but he insisted even against the suggestion of both his son and Sergio, because Renaldo told them that this regiment is only an experimental regiment, given that steel bibs aren't really the most efficient body armors because of their weight and inflexibility.

Although Renaldo did his best to make these steel bibs as light and as flexible as ever, they are still experimental.

But contrary to Renaldo's expectations, the First Bulwark Regiment performed really well in the Northern Campaign, with a high kill count and a zero casualty rate during the whole northern campaign which is why Renaldo incorporated more Bulwark Regiments in his other Divisions.

Mauricio and his men are armed with the MG42s or Steel Shields as their primary weapons and the Mauser C96 as their sidearms, their melee weapons though, depends on them if they want to have one or not, most of those people who prefer melee weapons often use the tried and tested bolo, which they often use to hack the enemy if those Spanish ever get into melee range, they are dubbed by the Spanish the most armed and the most dangerous infantry of the Philippine Revolution and is one of the main reasons why the Philippine Revolution is really successful (aside from the tigers and greyhounds lol)

Mauricio's POV

We are currently waiting for the right signal of Crispulo and his men, biding our time under the dim light of the february moon, me and my men are surprisingly calm though, given the fact that a few minutes from now, we'll be raiding the enemies and will rid them of bullets using our machine guns, we might even lose some of our comrades but I guess after a multitude of campaigns and killings, each and every person here in this trench are used to the smell of death.

As we wait, I took a glimpse at the battlefield in front of me, and I saw the carnage and death which this revolution has caused.

I thought to myself that freedom is the most expensive thing that money can never buy in this world, and the payment is currently halfway paid in front of me, with countless corpses of filipino and spanish men littering the whole battlefield, some intact while most are missing a limb or two, or are currently pieces of burnt mush. Barbed wires, Landmines and Wooden Fences are stationed all across the battlefield, ready to take the lives of more people foolish or courageous enough to cross them.

As I was currently under the influence of melancholy and contemplation, a flag was raised on the other side of the battlefield, so I immediately took my telescope and saw one of Crispulo's men waving the flag, that was the signal that we've all been waiting for!

I immediately mobilized my men especially the bulwark regiment, we don't have the tanks and greyhounds to be our vanguard for today so we were tasked by Sergio to be the vanguard, I was in the rear line of the bulwark while those shieldbearers were at the front.

My men and I immediately advanced forward while the other revolutionaries are behind us, they are waiting for the opportunity to cover our flanks. Thankfully though, Crispulo's men are successful in subduing the enemy artilleries and the enemy machine guns to ensure that we suffer the least casualties possible. The enemies are still not aware of what's happening so we picked up our pace.

A few minutes later...

Me and 10,000 revolutionaries are now in the enemy lines, I immediately took command by immediately ordering my men to move deeper and advance to our goal, the fortess walls, to go there, we need to cross the 2nd trench line and we expected the enemies to notice us there so I changed our formations and made some adjustments, in the trenches, the bulwark regiment's weakness is glaring which is our flexibility so I made the other revolutionary regiments to lead the front and attack the walls while me and my bulwark regiment will block the gateway that connects the western front to the center front, because enemy reinforcements might flank us while my men are attacking the enemy fortress.

I ordered my radio guys to communicate with base command and immediately order them to lay siege and fire at the enemy walls and commence their distraction to buy us time, I hope this plan goes well for us.
