Chapter 3 Luck

- Oh Odin, Tor and others, please, I really need a good bed. - I said while waking up from my wooden bed. I really hate those beds, but there is a very important reason why vikings don't use wool in beds, this reason is simple: Dragons. If dragons attack our village in the night like the attack in the first film, they will set houses on fire. Wool is very flammable, many vikings died due to their comfortable beds…

That means that I won't get a good bed, at least till Hiccup doesn't establish peace between dragons and our tribe. Hm, dragons, wait, now I remember, yesterday dragons attacked our village. My hair!!!

I quickly take my combat knife to see the reflection of my face and my white hair. Hm, strange, I was sure that with fear or even pain people's hair can't turn white.

(A: Little spoiler, fear is not the reason for his hair to turn white.)

Thanks to the author, I was really scared to be wrong at that point.

(A: Hey! You cannot hear me, this annotation is not for you, it is for readers!!!)

Hm, really strange maybe it is due to the fact that this world is different to earth.

(A: Good boy.)

I put the combat knife back in it's scabbard and went down to the first floor. It was silent, too silent.

- Strange, normally my father is snoring like a jiggle that can't turn on it's engine at that time. - I said to myself, talking like that helps to don't lose something important that comes to mind.

I headed to the parents' room and opened the door, my father was not there. Maybe he is still busy, I'm sure dragons burned more houses, he can be helping those who lost their houses in the battle.

I cooked some fish, I hate it but there are no better options. I cooked one for me and 2 for my father, his portion I wrapped with a towel. After breakfast I headed to the well, but when I opened the door I found Aivars outside.

Aivars is one of the Warriors of the tribe, not one of the bests, nor the weakests. Just one of the simple warriors of the tribe as far I know he managed to kill 7 dragons. If I don't count Terrible Terrors, these dragons can be killed even by children.

Aivars is 26 years old, with a small beard and brown eyes, nothing special, just another viking like many others. The only special thing is his brown eye. As far as I saw, most of the vikings have blue eyes like me or even green sometimes.

Terrible Terrors are weak in many aspects but they are the most annoying due to their size and speed. If I had to compare them with any animal from Earth, I would say that Terrible Terror is like a cat, but with wings and small fire breath.

- Oh, hello there Tormod, how are you? - Greated me Aivars.

- Hello Aivars I'm, how is the village after the dragon attack. - I really was interested, what Aivars do near my door, but first I have to greet the person with whom I'm talking, which is a tradition here. The tradition is very interesting, when you great to someone, who is not your friend, you have to say the name, the nickname that was given by the tribe, or in rare occasions by the elders or tribe leader, and the last if you have a great respect to that person you have to say all his titles and achievements.

If for example I don't greet the Berserk tribe leader with his name and nickname, it will be considered an insult. You need to name him with his name and nickname at least the first time in the conversation.

- There are some houses that were destroyed by dragons, and… - He stopped to talk, it seems that he was dudeing to say me what he needed to say.

- And? - When people dislike to say something, it means many things, I easily manage to wincule that with my fathers disappearance. - What happened to my father?

- Eem, he… he died - Said he quietly.

- How?

- He fell into the Whispering Death cave, I heard his screams, I'm sorry. - I didn't believe in what he said, my father is too lucky to die like that, I saw him being pursued by a horde of dragons and even falling into much more dangerous situations.

- Impossible, he is too lucky to die that way, you know it, where is that cave.

- Is to the south, not far from the village, wait, what are you going to do?

- I'm going to save my father. - I said calmly, I know more about dragons than anyone, and I created some staff from my past world, like cat hook.

- Are you crazy? You are just a 10 years old kid, and you want to fight against the dragon in his own cave!?

I'm always forgetting that I'm in the body of a 10 years old kid, but who said that I'll fight against the dragon, I want to save my father, not to kill the Whispering Death.

- I'm not going to fight against the dragon, I'm going to save my father.

- No! I will not allow you to do this madness! - His face changed to a serious one. He is very serious at that moment.

- As you wish. - I said and went home, slamming the door apurpositly.

The reason I do it was not me to surrender that easily, the real reason is to distract him. Vikings as the primitive tribe are not good at lying and very open persons. Of course that doesn't mean that vikings can't lie, they can, but it will be easy to notice for people from earth. Just remember when Stoick talked with his son that had his deck full of Toothless images and blueprints with dragon tail protez.

But there is one important thing that comes from this, vikings hate liars, if you lied once, they will be suspicious of you. This is the reason why Mildew, even being one of the technical elders has no influence in the tribe. The elder of the tribe is considered all people that survives till a certain age that is actually very difficult due to dragons. Now we have 3 elders if I count Mildew.

(A: No one hears to UR party of crooks and thieves)

The good part of that cultural rule is that like many others it is not applied to children like me. That means that I can lie without any penalty till a certain point.

After closing the door I started to prepare myself for what I'm going to do. Shield and sword that were adapted to my size, a few cat hooks, 2 torches, and many other instruments that can be needed for that I'm planning.

When I was ready I escaped from home using the window, even if Aivars didn't believe me, he would stay at the door. The people from that world are pretty primitive, they think in certain patterns and normally don't have a good imagination. This happens due to living all their lives in this place. That don't means that Berk is bad, no, that means that people from Earth are very advanced in that aspect.

It was easy to find the cave that made Whispering Death, but better I'll call it hole. The entrance is 3 meters in diameter and vertical. At that hole anyone can enter, but only dragons can escape this way.

I taked one of the torches and put it on the flame, then I made him fall into the hole.

1…2… it's like 1 and half second falling. If the gravity is close to the Earths, the depth of that hole would be like 15 meters or something in that range. I'm starting to forget the science from my past life, this is not good.

The torch illuminated for me the bottom of the hole. Nothing in particular, there was nothing to see. Wait, it is 15 meters in depth, that means that my father would get heavy injuries falling from here, but he is not on the bottom. Strange.

Even if he vas devoured by a dragon, that can't explain the aucence of blood in the floor, this means that my father can still alive. I taked one of my cat hooks, fixed it on one rock that was well situated near the hole and went down to the cave.

The cave was dark, so I took my torch and started to check the ground trying to find any trace in the floor. And I found them, only one human trace of a foot, this foot seems to be from my fathers boot. The others traces are all swept by a long trace of Whispering Death, I think my father fell on the Whispering Death, with his luck he managed to evade all needles that have that dragon and even escape after that.

Lucky, very lucky.

Here I have 3 tunnels, dragon traces come from one, and go to the other, sigh, I have to go where the dragon went.

I silently went by traces of the dragon, silently because Whispering Death is very good in sensing all sound, I'm even breathing silently. If someone would ask me, what makes the sense of time to be very slow, I'll say tracing Whispering Death in his own cave. At that time you are all tense, trying your best to hear or see any movement, not being sure if the dragon is here or not.

I was so tense that I took my shield to the left hand and torch to the right. I don't know how much time has passed, not so long ago I could see the roots of trees in the cave, I must be under a forest.

After one turning in the cave I found that something was reflecting the light of my torch, approaching that object I saw that it was my fathers helmet. I put it in my backpack, when… if I found my father I would return it to him. My findings make me sure that I'm on the right track.

I continued to trace the dragon. Didn't have passed much time and I found the dead end with a vertical exit from the cave. It is not as deep like the one near the tribe, but even people from that world can't jump to that height.

My father is not here, but this is the only rute he can go, I found his helmet here, maybe the dragon decided to escape from him, and later he climbed on that roots of trees, then why he don't went to the village, if he was bad harmed he would not escape from here and if not why don't he go to the tribe?

Strange. Very strange.

I used another cat hook to climb up from that cave and found myself in the forest. Some of the trees were destroyed, maybe by a dragon. Near one of the destroyed trees I found…

To be continued.
