Lovet's Visit

College was closed for Holidays. Everyone went on their own ways. It was a year and a half since Cavo joined college. He sat close to his parents after super. He wanted to break the silence amongst them. " My friend Lovet is coming to visit me next weekend " He spoke. He chose his words. His father Jimmy, closed his eye. He liked closing his eyes while addressing some issues to his family members. Jimmy is known to be a hard working man ever since. Jimmy's parents died long time ago when he was only ten years. He was the only son among seven daughters, His three elder sisters were already married. He went to stay with them them one after the other, He grew up in hardship, he learn in more than six schools before sitting for his CPE in class Seven. Jimmy was left with step mother, Dinah. He was brainy and loved education. He wanted to be a doctor, but his situation was unbearable. The poverty in his village couldn't allow him to proceed with his education. He couldn't proceed with his studies. This was painful. There was no one to stand with him. No one was interested in education. The villagers were drunkards and were well known with witchcraft.

Years past and Jimmy had to start his own life to help his sisters and his step mother. But first he had to look for a wife. Someone who could be there to help him in life. After succeeding in marriage, He took his newly married wife Jane to Rift valley province to seek employment. Their level of education were very low hence they had to do odd jobs like picking tea leaves. There was no shelter for them. His employer only allowed Jimmy's wife to sleep in a store room but Jimmy himself was sleeping inside the dog's kennel outside. They were trapping birds for survival and catching fish in a nearby stream. Jimmy and Jane however loved each other so much. Unfortunately sometimes they could go without food due to bad weather. Jane's brothers were living in Naivasha, Jimmy and Jane decided to go and stay with them! Jimmy learnt how to shape stones to be used in building. This made him to be loved by many employers. He learnt to survive with his family.

Five years later, he was already having a daughter and a son; Dorry and Pitalis. He came back to the village to build his hut. His mother Dinah was growing old. Jimmy never went back to work, instead he settled in the village to take care of the entire family. He started farming and taking care of their domestic animals. That couldn't support all family needs; clothes, food and medication. He started burning charcoal and taking to Kisii Town with his bicycle. After selling charcoal, he could bring home a whole head of a cow from the butchery. The family celebrated for a week feeding on all parts of the head. The trend continued for years. Third born and forth born followed, Cavo and Carol. Jimmy's burden was growing, fortunately, he started working for God as a preacher. During Sundays he preached to people. He donated a piece of land for church building. He started spraying domestic animals as another way of fetching income. It worked for him. He progressed day by day. He struggle through thick and thin to educate his sons and daughters. Dorry and Pita were already graduated from Teacher Training college. Carol was training in Kenya Medical Training College and the Last born Phenny was in line waiting to join training. He counted his blessing one by one. He wanted the best out of his children. He had struggled from his childhood. He opened his eyes and looked at Cavo.

"A male friend or a female friend?" He asked and closed his eyes again. Cavo understood where the conversation was leading to. Cavo could guess how proud his father was. His father had talked to him about marriage. No one was going to understand his situation with Lovet. " A female friend " He responded his head down. " A college mate" he continued. To him, he knew how much he could fasten marriage between him and Lovet. He was not sure when Lovet told him she was going to visit him. He had loved Lovet. He believed Lovet was going to give him a chance in Love while at their home. His father gave him go ahead to start early preparation before the D-day.
