Eidetic Memory

As Shawn drifted into his sleep, he opened his eyes again but this time he didn't find himself in his room but the same empty space again, he couldn't see anything because there is no source of light here, it gave the same endless formless feeling of the void.

'I am trapped here again?' Shawn wondered as he tried to feel his surroundings again, it was the same as before but now he understands his situation much better, he can feel the fast-moving particles around him.

The thing is these particles are moving so fast and within a second, he can feel certain particles lightyears away from him if he focuses on that one particle, he wondered how fast these things can really move and can he do the same.

Shawn knows that moving faster than light will blind him so the physics of the universe is the reason behind him being held back. If he could find a way to see his surrounding without seeing them with his eyes, he could run faster than light, but how fast, that is still a question.

Shawn continued to study the particles around him and tried to figure out their nature, but it was completely out of his understanding, tachyon particles were first thought to be just theory when a scientist from Norco, the northern continent discovered it.

After its discovery, people wanted to research more about it but they couldn't understand it, they couldn't contain it but Professor Newmon found a way to do so, he also became one of the important minds to research on Tachyon.

Though he has found a few things about these tachyon particles, he still has no idea how they are created and what is their purpose in the universe, are they somehow related to the expansion and creation of the universe, or as they just independent particles that have no relationship with anything in the universe.

With very little information in his hand, Shawn is also clueless about these particles, the only thing he knows is that he can feel them, make them move in a certain direction inside this mind space of his.

Time passed and Shawn realized that days have passed inside this void but he was not out yet, he started to get worried again, he didn't want to be trapped inside this void for years again.

He thought of getting out of this place and to his surprise he opened his eyes to the real world, he looked at this ceiling and at the table clock next to his bed, seeing the time displayed on the clock, he was surprised, only five minutes has gone by.

He felt trapped inside that void for days but it shows that he was asleep for only five minutes, he didn't feel tired in particular so he decided to not sleep for now.

Since he had nothing else to do, he turned on his computer and started playing games, he played for hours and he was still not getting tired or drained by it. Before he would be mentally exhausted after playing for such a long time but now he didn't feel anything.

'I don't know if I will get used to this feeling' Shawn thought as he continued to play. After some time he looked at the clock and noticed that it's 3 am and he still isn't tired nor sleepy, he decided to go and eat something.

He walked out of his room and headed downstairs, due to his enhanced hearing he could hear the creaks made by the stairs when he stepped on them, he could hear them before but now they feel more amplified which annoyed him.

He then began to hear moans coming from his mom's bedroom, Shawn clicked his tongue as he didn't know what to do with this woman, she is either sleeping with her current boyfriend or some random guy she picked up at the bar.

He arrived at the kitchen, took some bread, applied some jam, and ate it. He then went back to his room and started reading for his finals.

As he read through the textbooks, he realized he could easily memorize a whole page after reading it just once, this was new to him and this made him feel a little excited, he wondered if he has gotten more intelligent or if it's just an improvement in his memory.

Surprisingly Shawn finished the whole book in three hours and he could remember each and every word from the index page to the very last word in the book.

"Wow, now that's something, having an eidetic memory is surprisingly convenient". Shawn said and wondered what else has changed in his body.

He looked at the clock again and it's 6: 30 AM, putting the book aside he decided to do his usual workout routine, he started doing pushups but he didn't feel any resistance from gravity, even after a hundred pushups, he didn't feel tired, he thought he could go on forever.

He stopped doing pushups and decided to go on a run, he removed the shirt he has been wearing since yesterday and when he looked at it, he realized that part of his shirts was missing, it was as if they were ripped apart and burned, he then looked at his pants and saw that they were in the same condition.

He was so focused on what happened yesterday, he didn't even notice the state of his shirt or pants, he also never took a look at his surroundings because he would have figured out that something is wrong with him because of all the stares he would have been getting from people.

Shawn felt embarrassed but was also glad that he was not in the right mind yesterday because he would have been more embarrassed if he knew about it.

Throwing the clothes aside he put on his tracksuit and went for his morning run like away he ran to the park and as he expected he didn't get exhausted, he decided to return back to his house but before like always he went to his usual coffee shop and got himself a cup of coffee.

He looked at the news and saw the same old thing going around, superhero catching criminals, defeating supervillains, supervillains humiliating people, and crushing superheroes.

It is never a boring day in this world.

Shawn returned to his house and saw his mom wearing only a white shirt in the kitchen cooking something for herself and maybe for the man inside her room.

She turned around and saw Shawn and smiled at him.

"You are back? Come sit down, let me make something for you". She said and started to make something for him as well.

Shawn was surprised because this never happened, he took his seat in the kitchen as he watched his mom make him something to eat.

"So how is your head?" Debra asked.

"It's fine, it doesn't hurt anymore". Shawn replied.

"Thank god, I was so worried about you". Debra said and brought a sandwich towards Shawn and handed it over to him.

Shawn didn't say anything and started to eat the sandwich, once he was done, he went back to his room and got ready for his university, Debra was sad that her son doesn't talk much to her anymore and she knows she has no one to blame but herself.

She always regrets leaving Shawn to defend himself all his life while she was out there going to parties and hooking up with guys, trying to find someone to rely on.
