Chapter eighteen
Zeke and Lucy watched the beefing duo keenly at dinner. Regan noticed the stares that passed the around at the table. "Can someone tell me why you all are looking at me like that and why the silence?" he asked them, peering into their faces one after the other.
Lucy choked on the piece of steak in her mouth "I- I… we um…" she stammered.
Regan's left thatch of brow was quick to shoot up.
Zeke was quick to interject "We were wondering if you have anything to say since we are moving tomorrow."
"Why would I have anything to say? Married people need their privacy."
Zeke nodded and the silence resumed but Regan didn't pay any attention to them, instead he ate his dinner quietly but he didn't miss the way Elena excused herself quickly from dinner.
… .. …. .. .. …. .. .. .. .. .. .. .. ..
The Andersons had started loading their luggage into the moving van with the help of some men. Regan had left for work early as usual but he managed to come home before he would miss them.
"I would have missed you guys." He said, wrapping his sister in a hug.
"You will still miss us." She replied which earned her a flick on her forehead. "Ow!"
"You know I will. But I'll be fine." He walked over to Zeke, "House-warming party and boys' night out?" he asked with a raised brow.
"I wouldn't miss it for the world." Zeke said and shook Regan's hand.
Lucy walked over to Elena and gave her a hug. "Stop running away from your feelings Elena." She whispered to which Elena replied with a small smile.
Regan and Elena watched the couple drive away. She made sure to keep enough distance between her and Regan and she quickly took her leave the moment they were out of sight.
With the couple gone, the house turned quiet. The tension between Regan and Elena still lingered. The renovation at the Resort was taking most of his time as it was in its final stage, he left home early only to return late at night when she must have slept. Elena had thought about what Lucy told her. Whenever he was out for work, she would practice what to say to him to apologize for being the way she was with him, but he always came in late and she would always fall asleep before she could see him.
Regan came back from the office as the renovation and document signing were done. He checked the time, it was 11.31. He sighed, she must have slept again. He opened the door to find her sprawled on one of the couches in the living room, asleep. He impulsively walked over to her and tucked her black hair behind her back. "Were you waiting for me?" he asked in a whisper but she could not hear as she was asleep. He picked her up and headed to her room. He laid her down on the bed but she had caught hold of his hand and wouldn't let go. He sighed tiredly and got into the bed with her and she unconsciously scurried closer to him. He had no other choice than to hold her while she slept.
Elena woke up the next morning and she could swear that he was in her room. His scent of Creed Aventus had registered itself in her head after he had held her the other night and it was faint on her bed and body. She recalled that she didn't sleep in her bed yesterday. She had waited for him to come home but then fell asleep. Did he carry back to her room? She asked herself. She got out of bed and dashed to his room. She knocked and knocked but there was no reply. With a resigned sigh she left his room and went about her duties after which she went shopping to restock the kitchen.
Regan didn't feel the need to stay in the office anymore. With the renovation complete, there was very little left to be done. He grabbed some files and headed home Maxwell. When he got home, he subtly searched for her around the house before one of the household staff had informed him that she had gone shopping. He took off his clothes and changed into something more homely then he took the files and his laptop to the patio to finish his work while also waiting for Elena to come home. Even though they were not on talking terms, he still cared for her and took every possible chance to be close to her.
It soon began to rain but he couldn't care less, he wanted to see Elena. He packed the files into their jackets and shut down his laptop and placed the on the little table of the patio. The patio had awnings so he didn't have to bother about getting drenched.
