Chapter 6: Don't Cry, Old Man, I'm Here

Liang Yufang looked at the father and daughter, stubborn and unreasonable. Before leaving, she didn't forget to threaten, "With your temper, there are no benefits… You will taste regret sooner or later, and by then, it'll be too late to beg me for help. I'm still considering old times now, letting you off this time, but the Du Family won't be so kind. Since you're so stubborn, just wait for bad luck."

"Go away, and don't anger my dad anymore." Gu Xia, infuriated, slammed the door shut, wishing she could just throw the person out.

"Dad, don't listen to her. We'll just keep fighting to the end. I don't believe those people would really dare do anything to us?"

After Gu Xia finished speaking, she didn't hear her father respond for a while and felt something was off. When she went to check… she was somewhat dumbfounded.

The father she always saw as a tough man was actually crying…

Gu lay in the hospital bed, his head bandaged and still seeping blood, tears streaking down his aged face. This scene, a first for Gu Xia, was unbearably heart-wrenching.

"Dad… don't cry… I'm here, I'll protect you… If you don't want to move, we'll just stay here, refusing to leave till death… We'll protect our home, our martial arts hall, and the neighbors, all sticking together."

As Gu spoke, she leaned down and nestled in her father's shoulder, feeling an immense heartache…

She knew that her father was crying not just because the Du Family was forcing these neighbors, but also because seeing that woman after so many years unavoidably complicated his emotions.

"It's okay, Xiao Xia… I believe that evil will not prevail over good… We aren't unreasonable people… As long as the Du Family offers a fair price and doesn't treat these neighbors unfairly, moving is no big deal, and neither is closing the martial arts hall. I just feel about her… ah, never mind." Mr. Gu finally spoke hoarsely and even then, only half-spoke, leaving his sentence incomplete.

Gu Xia was weighed down with worries all afternoon. She knew that the Du Family had legally acquired the land, and as a person with superpowers, she knew they weren't demolishing illegally but were processing things normally. Yet, in the future, there might be significant conflicts, with the Du Family forcing demolition on one side and the old neighbors, led by her father, strongly resisting on the other. Could it actually lead to fatalities?

There was also today, with her father getting pushed and injured by that young thug from the Du Family, and Liang Yufang using money to pressure people.

All these things converged together, making Gu Xia's mood heavier than if she were visiting a grave.

After coaxing her father to sleep, Gu Xia left the hospital to visit the café run by her best friend, Mo Guo.

"Wow, Gu Xia is here." Mo Guo, wearing a green apron, was very happy to see Gu Xia.

Mo Guo and Zhao Ningxue had been Gu Xia's close friends since kindergarten, forming a solid trio.

"Stop the small talk, give me a glass of baijiu; I can't take it anymore, I'm extremely upset."

Before Mo Guo could respond, Gu Xia found a quiet corner to sit down, throwing her uniform harshly onto the sofa.

She then explained the ins and outs to her friend, and Mo Guo was also infuriated, "The Du Family is really too much, and that foster mother of yours… what a piece of work... Choosing the rich over the poor and leaving you to take the blame all these years… And now, she's still pressing you all like this, it's like asking for death."

"No, let's not talk about them for now. I can't bear not going over and beating them up; it really makes my liver hurt, give me a drink to cool off." Gu Xia waved her hand.

Mo Guo mixed a cocktail for her, and just as Gu Xia took a sip, her phone rang again…

"Xiao Xia, come back quickly; our house has just been demolished… The Du Family suddenly sent people to demolish it, they're unreasonable, all robbers, they are forcing us to death." Uncle Liu's voice trembled, clearly distraught, with a loud noisy background that seemed to signal a large-scale dispute erupting again.

Upon hearing this, Gu Xia instantly put down her glass, grabbed her uniform, and ran off…
