Chapter 31: A Lesson in Discipline

Jake had held onto Mimi for a lot longer than he knew, because by the time she was pulling away from him the sun had begun to set, and the wet patches on his clothes had already started to dry.

“I’m sorry,” Mimi apologised ruefully, “I’m sorry I don’t know why-“But Jake cut her off.

“You don’t need to apologise,” He tried to comfort her, “But an explanation would help.”

She nodded her head in understanding, realising there was no way out of the situation she had dug herself into, and wiping her eyes and nose on the sleeve of her shirt she sat up on her legs and began explaining to Jake what he had witnessed.
