There was a wisp of something strange in the air, like a settling of ocean waves- Jake thought he ought to have been used to escaping near death situations by now; he was not.
Although some part of him wanted to desperately believe that Argax and Palis wouldn’t go so far as to actually kill him, he was glad altogether for the arrival of the strange winged horse that shot down from the sky. Said beast that was now staring at him- a gleam of something Jake couldn’t place rested in its eyes and he was cautious to behold it.
“Thank you,” Jake said, thinking that was what the beast was hoping for.
It was not.
