Chapter 46: And So, I Return Home

A thrumming silence filled his ears, like the beat of a dying drum profuse and in war; it thumped in his ears despite the hollowness of his chest in that moment. Jake stared at Accalia-the broken image of her- as she now resembled the monster that had killed her family.

She stood in the archway of the door, too large to fit through now. She had grown tremendously in the weeks he had not seen her and he knew just by looking at her now she had even outgrown Amoux. Amoux- Jake’s eyes darted to the blood on her white coat and the savaged look in her eyes.

Quickly and without raising suspicion, Jake opened the systems tabs without the use of his hands. There, in flickering light, was Amoux’s icon- red and fading. What had she done?
