Stolen

Xiajun had parked his car out on the main street since Qi Lei's house was in a narrower street to park a vehicle in. As he walked out of the street and into the bright Hong Kong sun, he noticed something strange.

"Where the hell is my car...?" he muttered, looking around. His Bugatti Veyron was missing.

He did a 360 degree take of his surroundings, and was pretty sure he had parked his car right where he stood, but then where was it? Surely, it hadn't been stolen, had it?

As a detective, it was his first instinct to check the site of crime. There was nobody sitting around who could relay any news to him since it was a busy street and not many people sat around idly. And not a single CCTV camera in sight. This meant he had to rely on his only other option. Nearby, he saw a small ghost of a child sitting in the middle of the crosswalk with not a care in the world.

Quickly, Xiajun waited for the street light to turn red and then hurried over to the translucent blue figure, who looked at him with wary.

"Hey. Hey, kid," Xiajun hissed, kneeling down. "Kid, did you see anyone mess with a black car over there?"

The kid narrowed his eyes. "Are you talking to me?"

Xiajun nodded before checking the street light. Still red. He knew he looked daft to all the car drivers who stopped before the crosswalk, kneeling in the middle of the road like that. But he had no other choice.

"Yeah. Hurry up and tell me if someone took my car from over there."

The boy chuckled, amused, clearly oblivious of Xiajun's impatience. "You can see me? Isn't it scary? What do I look like from your perspective? Human? Or like those weird ghosts with a white sheet over their heads?"

"Listen, kid-"

The boy grimaced. "So I look just like a normal child? That's not very exciting."

Xiajun sighed and quickly hopped out of the way for the cars to pass as the street light turned green again. He waited for the light to change colors again before going up to the boy again who refused to move from his spot in the middle of the road.

"Oi!" Xiajun hissed. "Just tell me if someone took my car, you little sh*t."

"Now that isn't very nice," the boy mumbled, looking up at the tired detective. "But I will tell you since I'm a nice person. I saw three kids pick the lock and drive off with that stylish black Bugatti. It was really fun to watch, haha."

"SH*t!" Xiajun hissed, kicking the air. "Which direction did they drive to?"

The boy pointed north. "Straight up."

Xiajun nodded. "Thanks, kid." And he started running.
