An Insidious Ploy

"ARRGGGGGHHH!"

An inhuman roar broke the silence in which Lyrea had been comfortably traveling. Where she only saw a path of white light that gently glowed Koel saw the truth behind it.

A truth that had near driven him mad with rage.

Through his clenched jaws, words growled their way from his skeletal frame, dimming the light around as he vented his thoughts aloud.

"You sought to destroy all. To use the worlds as a grind and me the axis, to remake yourself as gods. Fools."

Before Koel's eyes he could see it all. The traces left behind where entire planes had been shifted, caused to crash and collide, to spin and spiral, to apply pressure down, designed to crush all below, including him.

His frenzied cries changed to a hollowing laugh.

"What an insidious ploy."

Curious Lyrea opened her eyes fully but could still only see a path of clean white, such purity and grace. What was it Koel could see?

"I see nothing but white."

"Perfection cannot perceive the flaws in what it does not know. I advise you close your eyes my dear."

Letting Koel take her hand, Lyrea couldn't help but question where it was they were going.

"Where is it we travel?"

"Imagine a quilt of stars. Where once it was beautiful, interlinked and dazzling, it is now torn and shredded. Each star laid out in a line and tied together, wound around and around until one cannot move without strangling another. This is the path we must walk on, for there is nothing else left."

"Who would do such a thing?"

"Those that only seek benefits for themselves despite the cost, who still greed over what will always remain out of their reach."

Feeling the comforting touch in her hands Lyrea wondered how long they would travel upon this path of light.

To walk between the worlds and set their sights upon them all.

"What am I to be companion too?"

"Memory. Journey. Destiny. I care not. It does not change what you are."

"And what am I?"

"Mine."
