As he looked around he was puzzled and amazed. I introduced myself feeling a little guilty for disrupting him especially with his blatant look of awe "hi, my names Charlie, nice to meet you". The boy timidly raised his hand with an insistent look on his face. I gladly took his hand and shook it. Whilst shaking hands instead of maintaining eye contact he looked at my hand instead, I took that as him being polite and shy. "hello" he said in a high and quiet voice. He mumbled "its amazing". Proudly I asked "what is?". He replied with "everyone here must be very honest". My delight quickly turned into confusion and I just stared at him wondering if I had misheard him. He must have noticed my bafflement because he held up his right hand. To this everyone gasped: he was missing his pinky and ring finger. He said " I only broke two promises but I didnt bet any on my left hand cuz it's my dominant one". Everyone was nonplussed but no one was able to ask so the question lingered in the air. The boy must have felt the sharp silence because he slowly curled his fingers back into a fist. Finally Adolf asked with a rough and husky voice "what has happened to you fingers?", you could hear him trying to be innocuous. The mysterious boy answered like what he was saying was common knowledge and louder than he usually spoke and with a lot more confidence he alerted " I made a pinky promise, obviously". Richard muttered "obviously" in a sarcastic tone but aside from that everyone stayed silent.
