Chapter 20: Triune Cultivator

The pitch black sky was littered with glimmering stars and a bright, crescent moon. It was night; and therefore, the time for Eric to cultivate his mind.

Lying down on his bed, he took a few deep breaths to ready himself. Once he was comfortable and had a stable mind, he started cultivating the path of the mind.

He visualized the blue strands of energy steadily making their way to his head and upon reaching their destination; they entered and got assimilated into it.

As he calmly envisioned this scene repeat itself again and again for about an hour, he started to feel a slight headache. This headache, however, was different from what he normally felt when he had exhausted himself from cultivating his mind too much.

What he felt now was as if his mental sphere was full; as if it was filled to the very brim with mental energy and didn't have even the tiniest bit of space left.

It took him not more than a couple seconds to realize that he was going to breakthrough.

With his will as resolute as a steel wall, Eric imagined the mental energy entering his sea of consciousness one more time.

Immediately, he felt a piercing pain take over his entire mind and after bearing through it for a couple seconds, he could feel his mental sphere expand in capacity, as well as his sensory abilities and mental capacity vastly increase.

Eric was about to open his eyes and check out these new upgraded senses for himself, when his visualization of his mental sphere absorbing mental energy started to change.

The first thing he saw a pitch black silhouette of himself floating around. He didn't know what this was or why and how he was able to see this, but his instincts told him not to question it and calmly watch what he could see.

Believing in his instincts, Eric unquestioningly immersed himself in the scene he was witnessing.

The black figure, initially alone, was now not the only thing he saw. There were strands of yellow, red and blue energy; which all slowly started appearing and gathered towards the aforementioned black figure.

As these flowing, wavy streaks of three colors gathered around the black silhouette, they slowly began to consolidate themselves in different places on the silhouette of Eric's body.

The yellow colored energy had gathered itself around the center of his stomach, its red variant enveloping his whole body and the blue one was positioned on the middle of his forehead.

The sight Eric beheld was mesmerizing. The energy of all three colors had started glowing brightly; illuminating the previously dull, black silhouette.

This was not the end though, as the lights of the three colors started to merge. The areas that each color occupied were no longer exclusive and the silhouette was covered in a hue of yellow, red and blue.

This in itself was an amazing display, but it was far from over.

The three colors integrated with Eric's black silhouette and in an instant, it changed from a dull, lifeless black to a brilliant, shining white.

The silhouette now emanated light and started floating upwards, as if a divine being ascending to the heavens.

After he saw this, the figure released a huge amount of light from all over its body; and a second later, all Eric could see was a dazzling white light, with no figure to be found.

As he opened his eyes, the first thing Eric saw was a system window right in front of his face. He didn't have a headache or anything of the sort and was in peak condition. Instead of feeling a sort of a pressure for defying the unwritten rule of not practicing all paths together, Eric felt like he was empowered.

It was as if the exact opposite of what should have happened, had happened to him. He felt the qi in his dantian, the qi in his body and the mental energy in his mental sphere coexist with; or even complement each other, instead of applying pressure on his soul, body and mind.

It took him a while to understand these changes that he had gone through, but after the initial shock, Eric was back to his normal state; and since he had made a breakthrough, he was in fact in better shape than his normal state.

After he had finished internally analyzing himself, Eric's attention finally fell to the Scam System's window in front of him.

After noticing its presence, Eric sat up and started to intently read through its contents.

As he read this, Eric started to understand what had happened to him. He understood the meaning of the visualization which he had seen a bit better; and he knew that he had somehow reversed the intended effect of cultivating all three paths of cultivation.

However, what he didn't know was how and why. He knew what had happened, but there were barely any explanations or reasons mentioned. How did his soul, body and mind not destroy each other, but instead they complemented each other? What were these unknown elements involved? Why did this happen in the first place?

As he bombarded himself with questions, Eric soon came to a realization that this won't help him at all. The only way he could progress and try to find answers would be by completing the quest and becoming stronger than he was.

He was pretty sure that if he asked the system this, it would say he was too weak to know the answer. Just to be sure, he directed those thoughts toward the Scam System and awaited its answer.

'Haah, as expected.' Eric sighed and lay back down on his bed.

He was about to close his eyes and get ready to sleep, when he realized that he had completed the second part of his chain quest.

Eric's facial expression instantly changed into one of joy as he quickly checked his quest log to see what reward he would get.
