I was

"I CAME TO CHECK ON YOU."

His smirk doesn't leave his face.

"After battling enemies who wanted me away from you, I finally succeeded."

Aubrey's brows furrows as she looks up into his mischievous dark eyes.

"Nothing is ever hidden from me." He smiles at her.

He has his usual dark clothes on. A large sized black shirt and black pants—he is dressed modernly, like a student of Mid-Bayern. However, Aubrey is fully aware he is far from being a student.

Aubrey's eyes of fury still stay on him. Then he walks closer, emitting the space between them. He lowers his head down to her face and whispers with a devilish smile, "They can never hide you from me, I will always find you."

His words anger her as her fists begin to tighten around the cup, subconsciously.

"Aren't you grateful I'm around. Thanks to me, you now know who your enemies and friends are." He says matter-of-factly, obviously enjoying himself while he disrupts her life.

"You stink." The smell of cigarette and apples mixed together makes her face scrunch up.

"I know."

There she was- rejoicing a few minutes ago, thinking the gods have forgotten all about her and being the missing piece that needs to be kept away from Kai. Little does she know that the horror is just beginning.

"Leave." She orders, aggressively throwing the cup and flowers to the ground.

The god follows her actions, his eyes on the dandelions that have fallen to the ground; a gaze of rage on them.

"I am sick and tired of your kind!" Her eyes grow livid. "Stop playing around with my life, it is not yours. I don't care if you are some lame ass god, who can wipe people off the earth. I do not want to hear one word about being the stupid, missing piece." She moves closer, glaring up at him fearlessly. "Just get out of my life!" Her voice echoes through the parking space.

The girls spot her again and begin talking, "What is wrong with her?"

"Why yell at such a handsome man?"

"What a sociopath."

Being able to hear them, angers her further.

"Stop it! I don't want to be able to hear what I shouldn't be able to hear." She shouts.

Her life suddenly takes an unusual, spiritual turn and she isn't willing to accept it. She thinks she can fight her way out of the absurdity but she is wrong. This is her new destiny and she cannot run from it.

When she is satisfied with yelling her lungs out, she walks past him, roughly pushing him but she seems to forget that he is a god.

Not just any god.

The greatest and evilest of them all.

Even other gods fear him and she just yelled at him.

He holds her by the arm before she walks past.

From his touch, Aubrey can feel terror and she slowly begins to regrets her actions. She tries to shrug his hands off her but he only tightens them.

Kai pulls her back to stand in front of him and she stumbles on her feet from the forceful pull. He stares deep in her eyes.

"I tremendously hate it when mere mortals raise their squeaky voices."

He holds her by the wrists and begins pulling her through the parking lot, towards the halls where she previously walked from. His hair slightly bounces at the back of his head from his furious steps.

"What is your problem? Let me go!" She doesn't stop yelling, angering the god further by fighting against him.

Her struggles seem to be ignored by Kai and the other students around her. It is as though she isn't screaming and she isn't being dragged by a man because students just stare at her solemnly like nothing is happening.

Can't they see him? Or can't they hear her? Did Kai turn them deaf for a few minutes? So many questions, unanswered.

Fortunately, someone notices her struggling gestures.

"Aubrey."

They both stop and Aubrey turns to meet her savior but it is the last person she ever thought would come to her avail.

Daniel.

Even from the infuriating situation, Aubrey's eyes glisten with tears as they set on his dark-blonde hair and light-brown eyes; admiring him.

Watching his skin glow under the sun makes Aubrey wonder how she captured his attention in the first place because he looks far perfect compared to her.

Aubrey notices something else.

Harper comes out from behind Daniel.

Aubrey frowns. Since when did these two know each other?

Harper's bouncy, ginger-red hair frames her face perfectly and her lip is glossy under the sun. Aubrey's eyes don't stay on her as they quickly move back to her ex-boyfriend.

She hasn't seen him since the breakup— which has been almost a month already.

Then, she notices something totally off.

Daniel called her name but his eyes are on Kai.

"Aubrey, where are you going?" Harper asks.

That question pulls Aubrey out of her daze and she tries detaching her hand from Kai but he quickly snatches her wrist back.

The sudden movement causes Daniel eyes fall down to the holding hands.

Aubrey recognizes that expression—Jealousy.

"I don't know." She answers, distractedly staring at Daniel's expression.

"Who is he? Your brother?" Inquisitive Harper questions.

Aubrey's face scrunches up and she looks up to Kai's face. She looks up with the intention to find what makes him look like a brother but instead, she notices that his attention is also trained on Daniel and it happens to be a very deadly one.

"What do you mean?" She turns back to Harper, "You know he is the mayor's son."

Harper's expression changes. "Aubrey, would you stop all of this? Who is he?" She scolds. "You don't need to make up silly lies."

Before Aubrey gets the chance to get confused by the situation, Kai pushes her into the car and drives off.

--

Once they arrive at her apartment, Kai doesn't waste time in getting out of the car. Aubrey, getting provoked by his attitude also rushes out of the car with him.

"What is your deal? What are you looking for?"

Kai opens up the door and she follows inside to see Brady sitting on the couch with his game console.

Brady rises up to his feet with wide eyes from the sudden break-in. He is prepared to yell as his face morphs into that of annoyance but he doesn't get the chance to.

Aubrey gasps, finally putting the pieces together as she realizes what Kai plans to do.

Without wasting a second, Kai marches up to Brady and snaps his neck.
