An Evil Day

The holiday was a interesting one for Gary. He and Tom did a lot of things together. They also played with other children. They played games like football, wrestling and so on. They also each other to their chores. This way, they finished their chores quickly and had time to play.

One-day, Gary went to play football with Tom and some other children at the field.

They played for a long time with no side scoring a goal. Later, Gary's team scored a goal, but other side denied it. They claimed that the ball went over the crossbar. Gary's team insisted that it was a goal. After arguing for minutes, the game resumed. This time, a goal was scored against Gary's team. They decided to deny it too. They claimed that the ball passed by the side of the goal post. The game stopped and all the players shouted at one another. They pointed accusing fingers almost exchanging blows.

Tom told Gary, "Let's get out of here, it's better we do another thing than wait here."

" Yes, I don't think these people are ready to play again," Gary replied.

The two friends left the shouting players and went to the pool not far to the field. Gary and Tom removed their clothes and swan for some time to cook off their bodies. After swimming, they plucked some fruits. They ate some and kept the rest for their siblings.

Later on, they went crab hunting. They set traps with a strings and passed it through the holes at the river bed. When they felt a pull on the strings, they quickly drew out the string to find a crab struggling at the rope. They caught many crabs before they decided to go home.

it was just a few minutes before dusk. Gary happily walked home unaware that something terrible had happened in his family.

Mr Thompson, Gary's father died on duty. He died before anybody could come to his rescue.

They call contact Mr Thompson's kinsman and disclose the news.

Gary's mother was thrown into great grief. She wept and wept. She called on God to take her life because life had lost its meaning. Life is no longer meaning without her husband, she thought.

It was that time Gary came back. Initially, he wondered why a lot of people had gathered in their house. Many looked at him with pity as he walked in.

Later, he saw his mother weeping and asked the people holding her, "what is wrong?" Nobody answered him. Instead one of his sisters hurriedly took him away.

When he was told about his father's death he was shocked, he did not know when he start crying.

"No!" Gary shouted.

After his father's burial, Gary however noticed that his mother usually cry each time she was alone.

One day, Gary decided to ask why is she crying.

"Can't you that I don't have money to send you to school, you are resuming next week but I don't have a dine to buy your school needs," Gary's mother replied.

"Mum don't bother yourself, am sure God will provide," Gary tried to console his mother.

Gary gave his mother a hug before going to bed.
