happy memories 2

His eyes were glittering, happiness flowing through them.

His smile said things she was always scared of.

His white cheeks had a tint of pink in them

"Is he blushing?" Neha was scared.

His face was so suspicious that she wanted to drop the movie plan.

"Ya sure. Alright. Assume whatever but we're just Best Friends, right" Neha said, elbowing Vivek.

"Umm..what?" Vivek stammered getting back into consciousness "Oh, ya! Absolutely"

"Does he have feelings for me? No. I hope not." Neha shifted her gaze from Vivek to the ground.

"What if he asks me out. I've to make things clear before that. I don't want to ruin our friendship. But…" Neha couldn't think straight "Nobody understands me like he does. We could be….wait NO NEHA YOU CAN'T…I can't take such risk..I'm going to make it clear to him" She made her decision.

"Neha! Get out of your dream world. Let's go, the show is in just 30mins" Vivek shook her.

"How are we going?" Neha asked.

Vivek winked at her as he held her hands and took her out in the parking.

He led her towards someone she has seen her before.

"Oh Akash! Hey" Neha waved at Akash.

Akash waved back and eyed Vivek

"Ohhh! Now I get it. There you go." Akash handed his brand new pulsar 220 f's keys to Vivek.

Vivek smiled and widened his eyes, making Akash stop saying anything further.

"Alright Alright! Enjoy" he winked as he walked past us.

"What was that about?" Neha asked.

"Huh? Noth-Nothing. You know these guys, they are stupid." Vivek said sitting on his seat.

But Neha knew, it was not Akash being stupid.

As Neha sat behind Vivek's bike, she thought "What if all of this is giving him hopes"

She started to notice Vivek more.

She saw it in him, the affection, the way he acted was different.

She held his shoulders and he shuddered.

She could see his face in the rear view mirror of his, it turned red and there was a slight smile in his face.

"Am I over thinking?" She thought.

She looked at him again through the mirror and she saw it.

She caught him staring at her, but he shifted his gaze with a jolt.

As they reached the movie theatre, they sat side by side.

She was so into her thoughts that she couldn't concentrate on the movie.

When she would be actually watching, she could feel his eyes on her.

One time, she looked at him and he smiled at her as if he has found his complete world in her.

But she couldn't think anything like that.

In the interval, he bought a bag of popcorn and 'one' can of coke.

She drank half of the coke, like every time and passed it to Vivek. But, this time she noted his face.

He looked at her smiling, the way lovers smile.

He drank it and said "it tastes good"

She couldn't fanthom, she was speechless.

She ignored it.

Gradually, she forgot about it and got lost in the movie.

She was so into the movie that she didn't realize a hand gliding up her palm which was rested on her seat's arm rest.

Suddenly, a tingling sensation in her palms, sent shivers down her spine, and she knew.

She took her hands away slowly, without taking her eyes of the movie.

She didn't want him to feel awkward.

She wanted to be friends with him, no matter what.

After that, even though her eyes were on the screen, her mind was wandering, making plans on how she should tell him that he should drop the plan of pursuing her.

After the movies, he kept on talking about how it wad the best day of his life.

How he loved everything about today, because he had everything he wanted.

Neha was completely speechless.

She only heard him talk and that was unusual of her.

As they came back to college, she knew, it was time.

"Vivek…I want to talk to you…Umm…can we skip this period?"

Vivek was gleaming, unaware that he could never have Neha.

They went to the cafeteria.

There were only 3-4 people, including them. It wasn't crowded like the morning.

They sat down.

Neha looked outside the open cafeteria.

The clouds were getting darker.

"It's going to rain…" Vivek said, glancing over at Neha "Such a romantic weather, right?"

Neha smiled.

"Vivi, what Ayisha said today in the morning…You know it's stupid right?"

Vivek's gleaming smile turned grey, just like the clouds.

"I mean, we are best best BESTEST friends, right? Nothing more, nothing less. I can't imagine anything else. I know you understand me very well, like nobody else does. We have this AMAZING chemistry that every one is jealous of, but we can't be anything more but best friends…You know I can't and I haven't and I don't want to think about us like that. It's not good…for our friendship, right?"

By then, Neha clearly knew she has shattered his heart in two.

"Wrong.." Vivek thought.

"Yes absolutely. Like why the hell would people say thing…umm..things like that..haha" Vivek fake laughed.

Neha could sense the awkwardness but she knew she had made her point clear.

She let out a sigh

"Masala Chai?" Neha asked,
