It was the next day. I was lucky enough that Garrulous had an extra room for me. I definitely owe him a big one after this. Waking up, I started smelling something good. It smelled like some sort of meat, something I never tried in a long time...Usually, the only meat I’d eat would be a wolf or bear meat, but this is something else for sure. As I walked downstairs to the aroma of thyme, ginger, basil, butter, and oil, it showed Garrulous cooking.
“Good morning Lexus,” he says.
“Morning' mate smells good,” I say.
“Yeah, it is a ribeye steak, cooked to medium-rare.”
“Hell yeah.”
“Also, check the bathroom if Androida is in there,” he says pointing to the restroom door.
“What do you mean?”
“Well, her dumb-ass sometimes sleeps in the restroom, also the steaks are done.”
“Right…” I say confused. As I walked to the restroom door, I tried to take a listen to if anyone was inside. Hearing nothing I started to knock on the door. “Androida? Are you in there? Garrulous cooked breakfast.”
I hear nothing. I knock one more time and no response. I sigh and turn the knob, it seems unlocked. “Okay, I’m coming in.”
As I opened the door, I saw the sun. “Oh god!”
“L-Lexus…” I hear her say.
“S-Sorry I didn’t know you were in there!”
“Did you not hear me? I said I was in here!”
“I didn’t hear a response when I knocked!”
“How the fuck, just get out!” Androida says, throwing stuff at me.
“Ow, okay, wait gah!” I say as a toilet seat hits my head as my nose bleeds.
A few minutes later, I had a bandaid on my head.
“So you weren’t sleeping on the bathroom floor again?” Garrulous says, cutting a piece of steak.
“What? No…”
“I smell a lot of cap.”
I groan in pain, “Maybe you should’ve locked the door or something or at least yell.”
“It’s not my fault…”
“Kinda…” Garrulous says.
“I swear I will shove this steak far up your ass,” Androida threatens.
I clear my throat, “So what happened after my father’s death?”
“A lot of bad shit I tell you Lexus,” Garrulous chews a piece of steak.
“Yeah, there were a lot of good things, but mostly a lot of bad shit that happened.”
“Like what?” I ask for a hot cup of coffee.
“Well the good thing is that we got more robotic-type tools now, bad thing is that he made security tougher. Not only that some of the robots took the jobs of many so many are jobless and homeless. It’s basically like that the holocaust except without the killing,” Garrulous explains.
“Well that’s deep isn’t it?”
“Yeah, basically when you’re out, especially your Lexus, you need to stay covered and make sure no one sees you.”
“So what happened to you guys? What did you guys do when I was gone?”
“If you can’t tell, I went to the army. During a campaign, I lost both of my arms as a sniper hit me.”
“Jesus, at least you’re doing fine now.”
Garrulous flexes his arms, “Hell yeah brother.”
“What about you Androida?” I turned to her.
“Nothing much since we last saw each other to be honest. Just drama here and there and just trying to be stable.”
“Sounds typical.”
“Shushy!” she says putting a finger on my lips.
“You know what didn’t change between us?”
“What?” the two asked.
“I’m still taller than you guys,” I chuckle.
“But I can still beat your ass!” Androida says.
“Touche,” I say, backing off.
“Hey, it’s my day off today, how about we go out for a walk around the city? Surely there should be something out there that you remember and love,” Garrulous says, getting his car keys.
“Sure,” I say, getting my jacket and respirator.
“Why do you need a respirator?” Androida asks.
“Well, Fei, my caretaker told me that the cities are dirty so I have a bunch of spices and all that for me to breathe the good air and not the bad air.”
“I see…”
As I walked out there were flying cars, lights everywhere, but something felt wrong. I saw a dwindling number of demihumans. I noticed that Androida hid her tail and ears.
“Hey what happened to all the demi-humans?” I whisper to Garrulous.
“King says that he is to abolish all demi-humans, so if I were you, I would keep your hood on. Many of them ran, while some of them like Androida hid within the crowd or hid in the slums.”
I clenched my fist. The only reason why my father was loved was that he loved equality of all races. He made peace with thousands of species and the fact that my mom was also an Oni so he was even more respected.
We went through many street food shops around the city. There were many types of food from the species, but everyone serving them, we’re human, or the species in hiding. The grudge I hold still grows stronger. I have to act fast or something bad will happen.
While walking I felt a tap on my shoulder. Looking back was a woman under a hood and she told me to follow her. I shrugged and told the others that I was going to a nearby restroom.
“Are you Lexus?”
“Me? No?”
“Oh, I’m sorry I bothered I thought,-”
“Wait, yes, I am Lexus Markyuusis, son of Ryuu who died by the masked man.”
Suddenly the woman hugged me and pretty tightly like a grinding gear. “I’m so happy to see that you’re alive,” she says.
“Thanks, but please keep it down.”
“I’m sorry Lexus, I’m just surprised.”
“Do I know you by the way?” I ask in confusion?”
As the woman unhooded herself as a tall suited woman. Her ears were on the top of her head like a bunny’s and I could instantly recognize her.
“Kagari?” I ask her.
“That’s correct,” she says. Kagari Synopsis was my father’s secretary and lawyer. She was kind, helpful, and mostly there for my entire life.
“How are you doing?” I ask,
“I should be asking you that, I thought you died!” she exclaimed.
“Shhh!”
“Sorry,” she says covering her mouth.
“Basically, I was saved, but how are you doing?”
She sighs. “I was able to escape without any notice.”
“How about my sister? Is she alright?” I ask.
“I’m sorry, I wasn’t able to tell.” I look down sad.
“How’s Mother?”
“She’s alive and well.”
“I see, anyway, I have to go, some of my friends are waiting for me.”
“Wait, before you go, take this,” she hands me a GPS.
“What is it?”
“It’s a tracker for you to find the rebels, also where your mother is.”
“Thank you, and I wish you luck.
“You too.”
As I left, I tightened my grip on the GPS and went back to the group.
