FLORENCE'S PAIN AND THREAT

As dawn broke, one by one, the men who had gone to war arrived. Women were waiting for their husbands or relatives to pick them up at the gates of their villages, and Florence was no exception. She stood watching one by one the men who came, hoping to see William's face there.

Some came with intact bodies, but many came with wounds and incomplete bodies. Florence hoped to see William among them under any circumstances.

Her legs began to ache to wait for William's arrival, but she still survived by continuing to stand where she was. Florence stood with the women who began to despair and cry because their husbands or siblings would never return.

Until finally, she saw Osmond in the back row. Her body was covered in wounds and blood. Florence quickly ran to the chief of the tribe.

"Where's William? Did you see him?" asked Florence, looking very worried. Her head turned to the right and the left, hoping that William was far behind Osmond.
