Early in the morning before the sun is up, a man and his dog are sitting on the roof of a normal looking two story building.
The man is Leon with his close companion spike. They are looking off in the distance in the city where a enormous crowd of zombies can be seen.
They don't seem to be moving very quickly but they are moving in the direction that his squad is going for the mission.
This means that they need to hurry and complete the mission and make it back before this horde cuts off their path.
Fortunately, because of Leon the squad was able to conserve most of their energy yesterday and are ready to move on quite early today.
"Leon! Let's move out!" Thomas calls up to Leon.
Leon swiftly climbs down from the roof and lands in the front yard. Spike leaps off the roof as well and they jump in the back of the truck and take off down the road.
The large military truck drives down the different streets in the city. Sometimes taking back roads and detours to avoid blocked roads. It seems the closer they get to the heart of the city the more zombies they run into.
There are so many zombies trying to attack their vehicle that the soldiers are having to help spike and gun them down.
They eventually arrive in front of a large hospital. There are zombies filling the parking lot and even the hospital itself.
The truck stops and all the soldiers jump out with their rifles drawn ready to fire on any nearby zombies. A round of shooting begins with rotting corpses falling to the ground surrounding the vehicle.
Leon commands spike to clear a path to the front entrance of the hospital. Spike leaps forward obliterating any zombies in his path. He pounces on one zombie and bites its head off and then charges forward into 3 other zombies impaling them.
The soldiers follow closely behind Leon and spike while shooting the zombies that try to follow. Once everyone makes it inside they proceed to barricade the doors with whatever they can find.
"Alright men! You all have your jobs so let's get to it!" Thomas yells and the soldiers all run their separate ways.
"Leon you stay here and keep watch at the entrance."
"Roger that." Leon says.
As Thomas runs down one of the many hallways deeper inside the hospital, Leon walks over to observe the barricade. It should hold for a little while at least. Through the glass he can see almost a hundred zombies stacked up pounding on the glass doors trying to get in.
The one in front are getting smashed into the glass by the dozens of zombies behind them making them smear their guts and rotting flesh all over the glass.
Eventually they will break through but there's still time. Leon starts walking around the lobby area while waiting for the others to come back.
This place is a mess to say the least. Papers strewn all over the floor. Blood everywhere. The only thing missing is bodies.
"AAAHHHHH!"
A scream echoes from one of the hallways leading deeper inside the hospital. Leon stops to listen right at the entrance to the hallway. Pretty soon he hears someone running while clumsily knocking things around.
The person finally comes into view. It's one of the soldiers carrying a backpack and running for his life. Behind him is a massive amount of zombies. There are so many that they are climbing over one another to chase the soldier.
"Hey! Over here hurry!" Leon yells at the soldier.
The soldier sees Leon and sprints past him in to the lobby. Leon waits for the man to pass by as he slams the door closed and moves a gurney to block the door.
The soldier is lying on the ground panting. There's a deep gash on his shoulder.
BAM!
The zombies crash into the other side of the door almost blowing it off its hinges. Spike is in full defence mode glaring at the door.
Leon drags the soldier away from the door and pulls out a first aid kit. He rips the mans sleeve revealing his wound. After applying a bandage the man sits up.
"Thanks for the assistance." He says.
"What happened back there?" Leon asks.
"I was tasked to retrieve any medical supplies and medicine I could find but I got ambushed. There was a barricade farther back that suddenly got broken through and they were on top of me in no time." The soldier explains.
"I see. Let's just hope the others are having better luck." Leon says. The soldier agrees.
A few minutes later another soldier makes it back to the lobby where he sees an injured soldier and Leon. He walks over to talk with the other soldier while Leon looks down the hallway he came from.
After another 15 minutes nobody else comes out. Leon has a bad feeling about this.
Leon turns to the two soldiers and says. "I'm going in to see if I can find anyone else. You two stay here in case anyone returns."
The two soldiers look at each other uneasily. It seems they don't like the idea of being left alone.
"As long as you stay in the lobby you should be fine. I'll be back as soon as I can." He says.
"Okay we'll be here. Stay safe." the injured soldier says.
Leon carefully makes his way down the hallway. It's eerily quite. There's old blood stains covering the floors and walls. He looks in a few of the rooms but they are completely trashed. It looks like a stampede came through here.
He makes it to the end and peers around the corner.
Nothing.
No zombies or soldiers in sight. He keeps moving farther through the dark hallways. He never let's his guard down this whole time. He feels like he's being watched.
CLACK CLACK CLACK...
Spike suddenly gets into an aggressive stance and clacks his Jaws together signifying a growl. Leon looks in the direction spike is facing but he doesn't see anything.
The hair tingles on the back of his neck. His senses are screaming at him.
DANGER!
Leon quickly jumps to the side. As soon as he does he feels a burning sensation on his cheek. He puts his hand on his cheeks and holds it in front of him. It's blood.
With Leon on the floor spike stands over him. Whatever it was that hit Leon is fast. A few seconds later it comes again. This time it slams into spike knocking him into the wall making a spider web of cracks.
Leon's stands up and finally gets a good look at the thing. It looks like a human but skinny, almost malnourished. It has three inch claws on the end of each finger dripping with fresh blood.
The strange thing about this creature is that it doesn't have any eyes. Where it's eyes would normally be is just skin.
Spike quickly recovers and lunges at the creature but it's too fast. He misses and the creature disappears once again.
It's at this point that Leon realizes that it's a special just like the one he fought before. This is going to be a rough fight, but it's a good opportunity to gain another artifact.
Leon stands up and looks around for anything to use against the creature. As soon as he takes a step, his senses go crazy alerting him of the upcoming danger.
He turns towards the sound of something fast breaking through the air and flips around as the creature slams into him knocking the air out of his lungs. He grabs hold of its arms as it slashes him with its sharp claws.
AAHHH!
The creature slowly overpowers Leon and drags its claws across his face from his forehead down his cheek across the left side of his face. Leon let's out a painful scream as he grips the creatures arms tighter trying to resist.
The creature is suddenly ripped off of Leon and thrown away as spike furiously bites its neck squirting disgusting black blood all over the floor.
The creature tries to react but it's too late. Spike snaps down hard around its neck and completely rips its head off.
Leon lies on his back clutching his face. It feels like his face is on fire. He can't see out of his left eye because of all the blood oozing out of the gash marks.
"That was a close one bud." Leon says after recovering for a moment.
Spike gently nudges him with a sad look. He doesn't know how he knows that considering spike doesn't have facial expressions but he can just feel it.
Suddenly he hears voices as three people emerge from one of the hospital rooms. It's Thomas and two other soldiers.
"Damn you actually killed that thing?" one of the soldiers says exasperated.
"That's crazy, it killed all of our men..." The other soldier says.
Thomas finally speaks after taking in the situation. "Let's just get out of here while we can. We got what we came for."
Thomas then hurries down towards the lobby.
Before moving on Leon checks the body of the creature and finds a marble sized core and a bow.
It's slick black like obsidian. Smooth to the touch but is also very light. Finally a weapon he can use to help synergize with spike. He slings the bow on his back and follows the others back to the lobby.
