"By the way, what kind of equipment are you looking for?" Diane asks.
"I don't have anything specific in mind. Just as long as it's useful."
"Interesting, are you sure you want to let me choose?"
"Yeah that's fine." Leon replies.
"Okay, it should be finished in three days. Come back then."
He thanks Diane and bids her farewell. Alexis is getting tired so they return to there room for the day. Leon also doesn't want to push his body too hard while he's recovering.
He walks inside and locks the door behind him. Alexis ended up falling asleep on the way back so he carries her into the living room and promptly wraps her up in a bundle of blankets.
Almost since they started living together when he first saved her from those thugs, she has had trouble sleeping by herself. The only solution Leon found was if he wraps her up in a couple of blankets like a burrito.
She seems to enjoy it and sleeps a lot better this way. So he's been doing this every night he's home with her.
Later that night Leon decided to absorb a few of his E rank cores he's collected over the past few weeks. He was originally going to absorb the D rank cores but they will be much more useful in making an equipment.
He pulls out his backpack and unzips the pocket with his stash of cores. He has almost 100 E ranks. Not bad considering he's not always able to retrieve them even if he does kill the zombies.
He then begins the slow process of absorbing them one by one. For the next hour and a half he repeatedly picks up a core and a few seconds later it disappears. Out of all 100 cores he put all of them into his intelligence.
Whenever he used to play video games he would always play as a glass Canon. Why change now?
Plus he has Spike to fight for him so the stronger Spike gets the better.
Maybe if he upgrades his intelligence more then spike will get another upgrade. After finishing up, he calls it a night and heads off to sleep.
...
Two days have passed and Leon has been relaxing at home with Alexis. His injuries are still there but they are a lowly healing. He can at least get back to work without too many issues.
His three days of rest are over so after eating breakfast with Alexis, he leaves to go report to general Smith.
As he is making his way out of the building soldiers can be seen running around in a panic. Most of them are running to the wall. There are people rushing to take cover inside buildings. The whole settlement is in utter chaos. Leon breaks off into a sprint through the settlement heading towards the front gate.
It only takes him a couple of minutes until he can see the the front gate with soldiers lining the top and general Smith in the middle yelling out commands.
Leon climbs up the stairs leading to the top and makes his way over to the general.
"General! What's going on?" He asks.
General Smith turns around to see Leon looking around confused at all the commotion.
"Leon, good timing! Were under attack! A massive horde is approaching the settlement and they'll be here any moment! Were going to need to throw everything we have at these bastards or the whole settlement could get swept away!"
Leon looks off into the distance. If he were to describe the scene in front of him he would say it looks like a thousand ants swarming through the city. They aren't even going around the buildings, they're bull dozing there way through as the buildings crumble and collapse. Its an absolute nightmare.
From the speed the horde is moving they'll be here within the hour. Alongside Leon and the general is Maurice the blue swordsman and Thomas who's using the obsidian black bow that the military confiscated.
There are other artifact holder spread out along the wall a distance away from the gate preparing to fight as well. The wall around the settlement is only around three stories high, made of solid iron. Leon's not confident it will be able to withstand the clash of zombies.
He can even spot a few of the special D rank creatures. While the soldiers are preparing countermeasures against the horde, Leon gets an idea and disappears in the crowd of people running around.
The general and the other artifact soldiers are too busy keeping an eye on the horde that they don't notice him missing.
The military ordered a few soldiers to bring out whatever explosives they had in storage. Pretty soon they have rocket launchers and grenades set up along the wall ready to unleash hell on the front lines of the crowd of zombies.
It doesn't take long before the horde comes into range. Immediately a barrage of missiles are launched into the front of the horde. Massive explosions ring out as blood and guts fly into the air.
Once the smoke clears they get a visual on the damage. It seems they were only able to put a dent in the horde. There is just too many.
The soldiers with the rocket launchers start reloading and getting ready for a second barrage. The artifact holders get ready to defend from the top of the wall to keep them from climbing inside the settlement.
General Smith gives the order to unleash hell upon the horde.
"All soldiers fire at will!"
As soon as the words escape his lips the soldiers let loose with there rifles and grenades dropping the zombies like flies.
Even with the constant rain of bullets and explosions the horde continues to grow closer. The sound of the horde is deafening at this point. There are so many zombies charging forward it feels like a small continuous earthquake.
Maurice the blue swordsman readies himself and swings his sword towards the horde unleashing a powerful blue beam of light. It cuts through the air with a crackling sound. His aim was spot on as the beam slams into a group of zombies and immediately an explosion of particles is released into the air.
The zombies were completely desintegrated. It's the power of his artifact, although strong, it uses a lot of mana and he can only throw a couple of beams before collapsing.
The other artifact holders jump into action as well. Thomas pulls back the string of his obsidian bow as a arrow of pure light appears between his fingers. He quickly releases the arrow and it pierces through several zombies before vanishing.
He shoots arrow after arrow into the horde as his arms leave behind after images from his shooting speed.
The obsidian bows ability is to boost attack speed tremendously. The power of the bow is not so great but is much better than normal bows humans make.
The streets outside of the settlement have turned into a battlefield. There are craters in the concrete and blood and guts strewn everywhere. The horde eventually close in on the wall and start piling up on the wall. The zombies in front get crushed under the ones behind them until the make it to the top.
The artifact holders and soldier attacks become more and more furious. they cant let any of them get past the wall or the civilians wont stand a chance. Maurice is thrusting his sword into the zombies that make it up to the edge of the wall. He's already thrown out as many sword beams as he could earlier in the fight and is running out of steam. His attacks become slower and slower.
While Maurice is struggling to keep them from getting past him, he suddenly feels a sharp pain in his back. Before he can make a sound he's hit by another burst of pain and goes limp falling to the floor.
It was Leon, using his cloak he was hiding in the shadows observing the artifact holders. When Maurice finally reached his limit, Leon shot his nail gun right in his spine and then his head giving him a swift death. He quickly retrieved the blue sword and retreated into the shadows before anyone noticed.
Dashing through the shadows he made his way over to Thomas. He was releasing arrow after arrow into the zombies and was faring pretty well. Unfortunately, he was not prepared for a 9 inch nail that found its way inside his skull.
Just the same as before, Leon grabbed the bow and vanished. This time a soldier noticed the arrows stopped flying and looked over to see Thomas lying on the ground in a puddle of his own blood. He immediately called out to the other soldiers as chaos erupted between there ranks once more.
Leon figured this fight was a good time to take what he could and leave this settlement for good. The military although not completely evil, were way too greedy and controlling. He didn't want to push his luck so now that they are alerted he decided to go and get Alexis and leave while everyone's distracted with the horde.
