Hiding what was left

Lilian stood at the bottom of the stairs, fuming from the core. The urge to pounce on Prudence and scratch out the contents inside her throat was making her restless. It had not even been minutes and it felt like a day had gone by. To wait for someone like Prudence was the last thing she wanted.

Her eyes met with the guards who did not look straight at her, but his eyes were cast ahead, on alert.

Lilian turned as she bite into her thumbnail. Her leg tapped on the floor when she spotted the head maid coming out from where the kitchen was located. "Bertha!" Lilian called out loud enough that Bertha could hear. On hearing the call, the head maid turned to look at Lilian and walked to her. Even though so many questions went through her head, Bertha never showed it on her face. It was poised as ever.

"Yes, Lady Lilian," she asked without attempting a bow, but her eyes were downcast despite her head that still held high.
