Past Glory

After visiting so many past versions of themselves and remaining invisible and sometimes helping out what at it, Aawoot and Baifin decided to make a trip to what was once their ancestral homeland which was referred to as Darkrealm. Except that after the recent battles they had in their previous incarnations, it was no longer called Darkrealm, but just another magical realm. It turned out to be another one of the invisible moons orbiting round the Earth, making the Earth look more like a moon itself.

Long before their race became werewolves and vampires or succubi, they were simply just forest beings with characteristics and abilities that made them very similar to elves. There was a portal that allowed such beings to travel to Earth, and that was why quite often the legends of elves could be found in human history, but mostly in Europe because the gate to this world was located there. However, after the realm turned evil due to the conquest by evil beings, the gate was shut off by mages on Earth and the practice of using magic slowly died off until the advent of the industrial revolution.

Aawoot and Baifin then found a gigantic gemstone called the Millennium Blue Amber, which provided energy for the beings here so that they won't have to kidnap humans for food and blood which was a demonic nature created by the spiritual enemies of mankind.

Once near the Millennium Blue Amber, they felt a great transformation within them. The demonic blood within them were cleansed even though they retained their powers. Their tendency towards unnatural or supernatural evil was no more.

They visited the castles of their ancestors that were turned into museums for the local people, villagers who were working to restore their agricultural activities after a great war and people reverted from blood-sucking and flesh-eating monsters back to something more humane. And that involved burying the bones of past victims and wishing their souls a pleasant reincarnation.

Aawoot was from the Wolfenstein clan, a clan of German men gifted in forest hunting that acquired demonic powers and got sucked into the Darkrealm and formed their demon clan there after being exiled from Earth.

Baifin had double parentage from the Lustbader Clan and the Rotenstein Clan, both former European noble families exiled to the world of demons.

They visited all three castles and marveled at the past glories of their ancestors who eventually came down to Earth and mingled with humans, resulting in their existence.

However, once cleansed of their evil side, such past glories were a thing of the past.

Still, the two of them still wish to find a cure for the pandemic that was raging the globe.

They were immune, of course, both to the virus and to the side effects of the vaccines that have not just saved many lives, but taken some as well.

They were thinking of bringing some power from the Millennium Blue Amber back to Earth.

However, the intelligent elders of the realm were against it and said that the power of the gem may be harmful to Earthlings considering that they no longer had any more magical capabilities and were relying totally on technology to advance their civilization.

Left with no choice, they returned to Earth.

They searched the Earth for more clues. There was no more obvious demonic activities apart from the time they went back in time to explore their past lives and past selves and sometimes even interfered with the events there and changed the history a bit. However, they outcome was the same. No more nefarious demonic activity on Earth, but human hearts still had darkness and were doing terrible things. This was something they could not do anything about. Not even when they had been cleansed of demon blood.

They even went to the heavenly realm of Asgardia to find out more but they were told that they could not interfere otherwise the Asgardia beings that acted pretty much as the police of the realms would come to arrest them and lock them up.

"Why?" Aawoot asked. "Why can't we help them?"

"It is their karma, and the punishment they receive for past life and present life transgressions. It is a series of death sentences and cycles of suffering that the humans have to go through before all can be enlightened. Otherwise, they will never learn and they will remain vulnerable to demonic influences."

"This is...unbelievable..." explained Aawoot.

"Focus on those who break the rules by summoning the demons back to help them. That is the only time you are allowed to act. Other than that, stay away."

"If that is the case, why don't we also guide the people to enlightenment first?" asked Baifin.

"We didn't say you can't," said the Asgardian elders. "And check carefully. Are you sure there is no one breaking the rules again? You need to sense if there is any new powerful evil summoned by humans again to cheat the system. But before that, since you have cleansed your evil ancestral powers away, why don't you start off your new mission with new names for a new start?"

And that was what they did. They went back to Earth and changed their names, legally.

It was time for a new start.
