"Thress!"
"I wanted to be king!" Thress said after he had jerked and Ruby's yell had brought him out of his trance.
He closed his eyes. "Your father had everything handed to him since he was born… he was treated like he was better than I was even though he was my equal."
"He came out before you did!"
"I never accepted that," Thress spat. "He didn't have the disposition of a king and our father never saw that even though I tried to bring his attention to it many times. Your father was soft! A king was meant to be ruthless and hard… just like I am- was."
Ruby stared at him. She shook her head and pitied Thress for a split second.
"Why didn't you spare my mother then?" Ruby asked as she cocked her head to the side, looking into Thress's face.
"Why would I do that?" Thress asked. "Does that even make sense to you?"
