'Hahaha, this is great one step forward! '
I did a little dance to accentuate my harrowing victory( of course it looked like a reptile doing the worm) quite the amazing feat. However, thinking about it a bit more, I don't even play a part in the main storyline(which I can't even remember) since I'm just a mythical creature and all.
'Aw man one step forward and two steps back with a slap to the face.' I thought glumly halting my little victory dance.
'Well boo, now that I know what I am, how do I even survive? I'm worried about hygiene, food, housing, well, I guess Saphiras can pretty much live in houses so scratch that off there, wait more importantly…'
I checked my under area….
'PHEEW Female' relief coursed its way through me.
Apparently, I didn't do the o'l gender switcheroo, which was oddly popular back on earth. Thank the reincarnation God that he kept me female even in this new life! That would have been something for the discovery channel huh.
Anyway, I don't know much about Saphiras dragons, it wasn't really explained much in the novel either, or maybe I just don't remember much? But, I guess it's good we're away from human eyes and live in this dangerous forest. Hats off to my parents, we're practically the top dogs here! That means no stupid humans would dare come here unless they were wishing for death!
'Ooh look at me already disregarding humans, am I mighty or what haha!' I wriggled excitedly, my eyes still glued to my scales. They seriously were pretty to look at though. With jewel skin like this, the nobles would probably try to skin me alive and wear me like some coat or something.
A horrific image popped in my head of me being worn by some faceless noble causing me to shiver involuntarily.
'Ah shoo creepy image' I tried shaking my head to get rid of the image.
*click click*
My head immediately spun to the sound of the door handle turning. ' ooh is it, mother? Father? Oh my gosh, what if it's an intruder!' I prepared myself to fight just in case it was an intruder. I bared my teeth, a low chilling growl rumbling deep from my throat.
' Oooh, Hey I can growl! I even have small teeth!...wait should babies have teeth? Weird' My efforts to look scary were broken. As I was lost in my own questioning, the door opened and a man walked in.
I flinched and focused my attention on the man, he was carrying a large beast that was pierced with multiple arrows. The man wore a cotton shirt and light brown vest both soaked in the beasts' blood. Below his vest he wore a strap lined with daggers some with missing handles, others coated in dried blood. He carried an array of arrows on his back, the bow was attached horizontally under them.
'Whoa, talk about hardcore, is he some sort of hunter? well, this is a dark fantasy novel, THAT DOESNT MEAN I LIKE BEING APART OF IT!' The man dropped the large beast, upon closer inspection it looked like a wild boar, except it has red fur like blood, laced with deep cut wounds and broken arrow buds inside of it, its underbelly was ripped open, exposing its internal organs that weren't beating.
" Hey Hey, how's my little girl?" The man said, his voice sounded of goodwill and happiness. I looked at the man's face 'oh it's my new father!' His red hair which was much lighter than the blood-soaked fur of the slain beast was vibrant like ruby, his eyes brown, he was more on the thin side but packed with firm muscles.
' oooh, fathers a decent looking man huh" I thought as the man-made his way toward me. He didnt look any different from someone on earth, except his vibrant red hair, anyone in Japan would think he was some sort of cosplayer or maybe someone from Ireland. He lifted me up from my grassy bed and coddled me. ' Huh arent I heavy, I'm a body full of jewels you know' but father didnt seem like he was struggling at all.
I tried to ignore that he was carrying me despite having so much blood on him, some of it was getting on me too. 'It's ok, Just go with the flow, just go with the flow, I'm a legendary creature, this should be normal for me' I breathed in, trying to calm myself down, this was all so scary I never saw so much blood before, on tv I knew it was fake but seeing it in real life in front of you was something entirely new.
I forced myself not to scrunch my nose from the smell of blood and simply laid my head on my dads' shoulders. Just beyond the blood smell, there was an unusual sweet smell. I didn't know what it was, however, it was faint.
My father sighed causing my eyes to shift to him.
" I brought a meal for your mother, she must be hungry after getting you your books, maybe she'll see my goodwill, what do you think Yu?" My father said looking outside the opened door
' oh is Yu my nickname now? Cool, but hey uh papa I could use something to eat to you know, got any salads, uh greens or anything?'
I tried to convey to my father I was hungry, It literally felt like my stomach was caving in, quite painfully, but he didn't seem to be listening. His eyes were glued intently outside the door.
I could feel my head throbbing in tune with my heartbeat, with every beat it felt like someone was pounding my head. I felt hot and stuffy.
'I-is this normal? I feel weird...hey father..'
"Errriek" but my voice came out pretty weak. I could smell a plethora of things that made my mouth water, from the dead beast that smelled enticing, to my father's unusually sweet scent, to the even far-off birds that laid in their nests. All of it made my stomach growl louder.
' OH! It must be your mother now, I knew she'd be hungry" my father cried happily, he sat me back down on the grass bed and made his way outside.
"Errk' I lifted my claw to him, but in trying to do that I fell from my grassy bed with a loud THUMP.
'Eurgh it hurts'
My breathing was getting rougher, my vision shaky. Slowly, I made my way to the dead beast. The smell was invigorating, my vision was blurring now.
*Pant* *Pant*
' I don't want to eat that, I'm vegetarian. Darn it, my body won't listen' I tried to turn my body away but my stomach said Nah.
I stood before the dead beast and without a second of hesitation, bit into the flesh, my mouth was on autopilot, my vision red. Blood splattered everywhere the deeper I bit into the carcass. I didn't even register the taste, all I could think of was food.
When I came too, there was nothing but bones and blood-soaked floorboards that trickled ominously beneath them.
