A Silver Car

Jacob was nervous. Looking at him only his closest friends and father would be able to tell that this mask of indifference was hiding a bundle of emotion ready to burst. He was finally going to the academy! Evergreen! His day had arrived! No more boring human school, well humans and elves. Dwarves had their own unique schools and the elves wanted to make a better connection with the humans unlike the more independent dwarves. He hoped to see a wide variety of races at the academy though, some might be able to help him learn what he needed.

As his mind was wandering while he waited he heard a knock from the front door of his fathers two bedroom one bathroom home, it was a small house but raising just one child as a single father didnt take much space and it left some extra funds to get a few desired items. Jacobs heard his father answer the door and he slowly glanced out to see who it was. What he saw was a man with two dark curling horns and a pair of pitch black eyes with no visible whites, it was like looking at two pools of black paint. Aside from these obvious differences he appeared to be a normal human meaning he could only be one of two races, he was either a Nephilim born from a demon or he was a demon powerful enough to hide his natural form.

The demonic man was speaking with the his father and as Jacob watched his father began to smile before spinning around, "jacob! someone's here to see you from Evergreen, come over here son." Taking a moment to calm his racing heart Jacob finally smiled before he stepped into view of the two men. "Are you ready to begin your new life young man?" the demonic man looked down at Jacob with a curious stare waiting for a response. "yes I'm ready, lets go" at the end of the walkway was a silver vehicle, a machine used exclusively by the Otherworld Travel Association or O.T.A. the closest comparable vehicle to those on earth would be a very high tech limousine, waiting inside would be the other children joining the academy this year.

Stepping into the vehicle Jacob used the moment he took a seat to look at each of his fellow freshman. One tall boy appeared to be of African descent but his features were odd, then jacob saw his pointed ears, a half breed like him. The other kids didn't look as interesting as the half elf; a blonde elf girl with green eyes, a dwarf boy with the thin wisps of a young beard, the pride of the dwarves, there was a human girl with brown hair and blue eyes, there was a large boy with hair he'd obviously dyed green and brown eyes. As he continued to look each one over he realized that they were staring at him, not a single one was hiding their stare and he became embarrassed as he always does when new people do this. He knew exactly why they were staring, the obvious signs of his mixed blood, pointed ears like blades and black lines moving from the neckline of his shirt, along either side of his throat across each cheekbone and ending around each eye. Growing up he was bullied for these lines, mostly being labelled zebra boy by others. If he would speak the others would see that his teeth were sharp enough to be compared to beasts, but other oddities could be easily covered by clothes.

The first to speak was the other half breed who pointed at his own ears, "looks like we're in the same boat huh? It builds a tough person growing up different. Im Nathan nice to meet you all." The next to step up was the elf girl who said her name was Laia, then the girl with brown hair lowered her head and said she was Neely, the young dwarf grunted speaking his own tongue refusing to speak english. The boy with green hair was acting like we weren't there so it finally came to Jacobs turn. "My names Jacob, i hope we can grow strong together"

As the vehicle began to move Nathan was being a social butterfly trying to get each student to open up about themselves but after a couple one to two word answers he gave up on the meet and greet deciding to instead talk about what he hoped the academy was like. This approach got a good response because Laia and Neely seemed very excited for their journey.

Laia waved her hand in the air creating small green lines of wind magic to the awe of the others "my mother is mage in our home town and she helps out the human businesses as a paid performer. She taught me a little to be able to practice my own magic but none of her own spells." Nathan was watching the entire time with a big smile before lifting his own hands producing a small flam from each fingertip, no bigger than a candleflame and barely brighter "my father is was an elf and he became a forest ranger, my mother was a sorceress that occasionally helped with forest fires and did controlled burns for them. Its how they met." Neely looked awestruck by the pair and Jacob was amazed that they could already control their magic, he'd always heard most wouldn't control magic until their second year so these two had an edge over the class.

As the group were discussing the academy and their hopes the vehicle made another stop, the other students all stared at the door with various levels of anticipation, his own confusion must have been obvious because neely leaned next to jacob "it means another student is getting on." Jacob nodded and thanked her meanwhile thinking about the possible kids that may be on the other side, based on the short time they spent driving with a number of turns mixed in he was still in his neighborhood. As he was thinking this the door opened and on the other side stood an elf girl with hair as white as snow, skin just as pale and eyes blue like the sky.

"Selena? Is that you?" Jacob called over to his old friend with a big smile as he finally felt excited for more than magic at Evergreen.
