“You ready?” I ask Harley as the two of us sit on my bike, her in front of me. Besides Charity, she’s the most precious cargo I’ve ever carried on here, and it makes me happy she enjoys something I do. Charity and I lucked out with kids who share our interests.
We’ve both got our helmets on, because that’s what Charity requires when I have her on the bike. It’s a warm day already and I wish I could take mine off. At least it’s not a damn full-face one, but it’s still warm enough while we’re sitting here with no air flow.
“Y’all be careful,” Charity warns as she and Justice walk to the SUV. She stops, giving us both a talking to. I know it’s just as much for me, as it is for Harley. “I don’t like that you’ll be behind me.” She grabs hold of Harley’s hand. “I’d rather watch your back.”
