Jayden drove, leaving Alex’s car parked in front of The Murky Cauldron downtown. Obtaining a driver’s license was something Laci knew she needed to make a priority, but when did she have the time of late? She hated taking the bus and couldn’t count on her sister or mother to keep taking her places. She glanced at the houses they passed. Normal houses with normal families inside. When all of this is over, I’ll make time to get the things I need, such as a driver’s license. 


The Valentine sisters took up the front seat, while the dark and gloomy Alex sat in the back, head against the window as he stared out the glass at nothing as they weaved through the town. “Stupid,” he mumbled, and not for the first time. “Stupid. How could I be so fucking stupid?” He banged his head on the window and sighed.
