Aileena, a tall woman with dark hair and penetrating eyes, stared at Tansy. “High Priestess Maggie did as I instructed her. I thought it prudent…”


“To go over my head,” Tansy snapped, cutting off the High Priestess, the woman’s eyes widening at the interruption. Tansy clenched her fists as she stood, squaring off against the other woman. “Does the Coven Council not have a sense of proper protocol? Rules of conduct? Why didn’t you call me instead of Maggie?”


“How dare you question the Coven Council’s High Priestess,” a woman off to the side hissed.


Tansy turned her head slightly, raking the short, robust woman with her steely gaze. “I question everything I don’t agree with, as should you if you’re to serve your coven in the best manner you can.”


A rustling behind the torches caught everyone’s attention, bringing a halt to the argument for now. Tansy watched as Laci and the others of the Cauldron Coven marched into the clearing, moving directly to her side.
