Chapter 47: Two Years Later

The hustle and bustle of the book world never stopped. It was forever changing and so were the readers. The things they wanted last year weren't the things they demanded this year, and I struggled to stay true to myself and not write to gain fans. I'd promised myself long ago, I would write the stories my characters wanted told, not the ones my readers wanted to read.

It had seemed like a commitment that would be easy to keep when I'd started, and it was, because I didn't answer to a publishing company, but when my contract was renewed, it wasn't done so under Plum Muse. I became a Quill author, with a huge contract, including lots of zeros after a dollar sign and a five-book series. This company had invested a lot of money in me, and they expected a lot in return-sometimes it didn't align with what I wanted to give.
