Chapter 57

The walls in my office needed some pizzazz, some color. I should've been working, but instead, I stared at the lifeless room around me, wondering how I had ever thought this would be conducive to creativity-everything was so...sterile. I sighed at the similarities between these walls and my uterus.

Barren.

My schedule normally kept me moving all over the country, but with Hayden at the filming of Prodigy and Liam back and forth to New York and California, I'd had a lot of free time on my hands. More and more frequently, it seemed to be spent wondering why I wasn't pregnant instead of plotting characters or scenes.

I'd quit complaining to Hayden-she had zero sympathy. In her mind, Liam and I could be happily married with two kids and a dog, but I'd refused to see the truth for years-because that was helpful. She'd been home so little she wasn't even aware of the changed relationship with Liam, and since she'd been such a shithead, I'd refused to tell her.
