"No one should look as cute as you do with nine weeks left in your pregnancy." Hayden no longer bothered to talk to me; instead, she hovered near my belly button and talked to my stomach. "It's just sickening that one person could be this adorable." The baby voice she used made me want to hurl, but instead, I swatted her away.
"Why do people do that?"
She stood up and quit making googly eyes at my shirt. "Do what?"
"Touch other people's stomachs. My being pregnant does not give anyone the right to grope me and coo at my unborn child."
"Ugh. God, you're in a mood. Why are you so pissy?"
I closed my eyes and took a deep breath. When I opened them again, she still waited. "I'm enormous, Hayden. And I'm forty-one years old. This shit is not for the faint at heart."
