Just Another High School Story!

"I'll give him a chance, after all I've got nothing to lose." she said to the stars, as she sat on her balcony, she liked doing so, Linda had moved out of their room and shifted into another one, they had always lived together and the room felt empty without her, another big blow to her, but that was fine as whenever Linda did sit down, she was on her phone, watching weird videos and never showed interest in anything Leah wanted to say, as twins, being apart from each other felt weird, at least she still had Snuffles to take care of, Snuffles was their cat and Leah felt like Snuffles was the only one who had never hurt her or teased her, she always sat quietly in Leah's lap and enjoyed the night's beauty which was breathtaking, the cat fell asleep in her lap and as she continued telling the stars about her day, she realised that no one in her family had congratulated her for becoming head girl, "I don't think they know but oh well, who'll be happy anyway, right?" she asked and laughed at herself for expecting the stars to answer. Suddenly, a voice shouted from below, "I'm ecstatic." Leah jumped up with a start, "God, I've started hallucinating now, I'd. better go to bed." she genuinely thought that one of the stars had spoken and happy as she felt, she slowly got up so as not to disturb Snuffles, and suddenly, the voice spoke again, "Can I come up?" "Who the hell?" she muttered aloud, and looked at the time, "12:27 am", the clock read, shamelessly, and she wondered if someone had lost their mind. After she put Snuffles down, she looked down from her balcony and surely, it was Ethan, in sweats and a hoodie, glimmering like a star, "I'm not crazy, thank god!" she said to him. "Of course, did you really think the stars would answer?" he asked and started climbing up the stairs that led to her room, their house had a pool and the stairs went straight to the balcony from the pool. "Shhhhhh!" she yelled and he smiled his beautiful smile. "Don't worry, it's not like I'm your boyfriend, so even if we get caught, we won't be punished and we're not doing anything morally incorrect." "Chaebal! Shut up." she said, and realising, she had habitually used Korean (Chaebal: Please), she wanted to repeat the sentence when Ethan smiled, "I won't. Biyane." (Biyane: Sorry) She smiled at this sudden reply, "You know Korean?" she asked, "I love k dramas and had to learn a little, I love reading the titles, it gives me such satisfaction. he said as he shuffled in next to her, "Khachi?!", she exclaimed (Khachi: Right?). "Keep it down though my cat is sleeping." she said as she pointed to the gorgeous animal, slumbering deeply. "Aren't you vegan?" he asked, and the conversation took an unexpected turn, "How did you...?" she asked and he answered, "Because you barely eat and you look at animals as if they are life savers or immortals." "When did you see me look at an animal as if it was a life saver?" she asked and he smiled and said, "The stray cats and dogs that you feed outside our school before attending first period, everyday." "Wow, you're a stalker, Chugulae?!" she asked and they laughed at the obvious ending of her sentence. "They are so cute, aren't they?" she asked turning to look at the cat, and he smiled but didn't answer, "I know you like silence so I'll not say anything else, speak first if you want to." he said and started stargazing. "Wonderful." she said and stopped.

"Maybe, he's not as bad as I think." she said thinking about him, while speaking to the stars, of course she didn't say anything out loud and only smiled, he didn't belittle her way of living. People who lived a noisy life, and a social one, often didn't know who they were or who they wanted to be, they were often people who felt empty inside, Ethan didn't mind her silence, he was willing to wait for her to confide in him, and when she would, he would love her like no one ever could. As they sat together, silently, 2 hours passed, and they'd fallen asleep on the balcony with her head on his shoulder. She awoke from a nightmare, sweating like crazy, and he held her saying that everything was alright. She was weirded out by the fact that there was someone with her. She finally snapped into her senses and realised what had happened. "Oh my god," and Ethan immediately became distress, "What, what, what is it??" he asked looking at her terrified expression, "Your family, they must be wondering where you are... and", he didn't let her finish, "I don't have one, shit, I do... I just don't acknowledge them." and when he said this she felt like she could see through his words, what he actually wanted to say was, "I'd love for them to be with me but life isn't skittles and rainbows all the time." She said, "If you're going to be alone, let's just sit here for some time." And after that she got up and put a blanket over them. A few hours turned into the whole night and they awoke with their backs aching.

When they woke up, Leah was embarrassed and she bolted to her bathroom, locking it shut and looking at herself. "What the hell?" she thought, "He spent the night here." And then she began laughing, quack laughing to be exact, by 'quack laughing', I mean when you start laughing to make the situation lighter but it has the opposite effect, she got out and saw that he was gone, she wondered why he didn't stay. "Well, in any case, spending the night with a person, looking at and in the presence of stars, is beautiful."

And she wondered if they would ever do this again.
