Glide, And Run

"This is so stupid. Why do I have to follow your stupid plan?"

"Because you're my best friend, and you're helping me out,"

"Right. Keep reminding me because I'll keep forgetting why I'm doing this every two minutes,"

Maro grumbled, quietly tip-toeing on the long, quiet corridor to reach the infirmary. Lefric followed silently behind him, looking everywhere to make sure the coast was clear.

It was nighttime, and the only ones who weren't up yet were the sisters. Sister Alta was the one who stayed at the infirmary. She's the most docile among the bunch, maybe because she's an elf. Her kind nature was her roots.

When they reached the end of the corridor, they spotted one single door from the corner of the wall. Lefric looked at Maro.

"Ok, I'll do another briefing," He whispered.

"You briefed me your plan dozens of times,"

"Listen to me," Lefric glared at the werewolf. "I'm taking you to the infirmary because you're sick. While sister Alta check up on you, distract her so I can grab the spray bottle from the cabinets,"

"Yeah, yeah," Maro scowled, getting sick from listening to the same thing over and over again. "Can we just do this already?"

"Let's go,"

Lefric tried to stop his wings from trembling anxiously. He couldn't deny that he's feeling nervous. He did a lot of reckless things for the past couple of years. But this is different. He was determined more than ever.

He couldn't afford to get caught this time.

Maro knocked on the door. And the door opened quickly. Sister Alta looked surprised to see Maro and Lefric standing there. She glanced at Lefric through narrowed eyes before looking back at Maro.

"What's wrong?"

"I feel a little bit under the weather," Maro lied easily, furrowing his eyebrows and massaging his temple with his index finger and thumb. "I threw up just now and Lefric keeps me company,"

"Hm, come inside," Sister Alta said, opening the door wider so the two kids could come in.

Lefric walked in silently, humming nonchalantly as he looked around. Sister Alta gave him a look, but Maro cleared his throat to get her attention. It worked.

Sister Alta told Maro to climb the creaky mattress and started to do her work. Lefric gulped and quietly went toward the cabinets in front of him. He glanced at Sister Alta who's still busy tending Maro who let out tiny distressed sounds.

He's a great actor.

Lefric thanked the skies and other deities up there when he noticed the cabinets didn't let out any sound when he tried to open it. He stood on his tippy toes to grab a bright pink bottle spray right next to other pill bottles.

His clumsy hand knocked one pill though, but he reflexively ducked and grabbed the bottle before it fell on the floor. Lefric widened his eyes in horror, feeling adrenaline started to rush through his veins and glanced at Maro who side-eyed him worriedly.

Lefric gulped down the dry lump on his throat and carefully placed the bottle neatly.

When Sister Alta shifted, Lefric gently closed the cabinets and stuffed the spray bottle inside his oversized shorts. Luckily the spray bottle wasn't that huge. As long as he pocketed his hands, it'll look natural.

"You're just tired," Sister Alta told Maro, guiding the two kids back to the entrance. "You're allowed to sleep in tomorrow until you feel a little bit better," She added. She gave Lefric one last suspicious glance before closing the door.

Maro rolled his eyes, already used to the sisters' cold treatment. He grabbed Lefric's wrist and dragged him away from the infirmary.

"C'mon, We don't know how long it will take her to realize that the spray bottle is gone," The werewolf said, ears twisted in all direction to hear any sort of sound.

Lefric whined. "That was so scary. I swear if I get caught, the sisters will throw me into a dungeon forever,"

"We don't have a dungeon,"

"You don't know that. Look at the sisters, Maro. They all look like guards from hell and sister Antia is the warden,"

"You're dramatic,"

They both entered their rooms in no time. Lefric pulled the spray bottle out of his pockets and looked at Maro. Maro stared at him back, then huffed while smirking.

"What? You're having second thoughts?"

"No, it just that, You're my best friend, Maro. I don't want to leave you behind," Lefric mumbled.

Maro ruffled Lefric's hair. "Idiot. Do you actually think I'll let you run off on your own? I never chase after you whenever you escaped because I know the sisters would catch you. But it's different now,"

Lefric beamed, eyes twinkled and his wings fluttered.

"I'm lucky to have you as my friend. You dog,"

"Call me dog one more time and I'm going to kick your butt, pigeon,"

Lefric grinned. "Ok, time to execute the next plan,"
