First Encounter With A Normal Nomadic Tribe

May 1rst, 0001:

Once I woke up today, I did everything I had to do before getting everyone to continue doing the same thing they were doing yesterday because as much as I wanted to get my hand on copper or tin, I would still need to turn the new settlement into a safe space before being able to worry about anything else.

I had also made a slight change in the things that were being produced as I was also planning to build a wall around both settlements to minimize the number of predator attacks we received. as for what the wall would be made out of, it would just be sharpened wooden branches set up in a diagonal way fo that it would form a sort of line of X's formation.

It would only be a temporary addition, of course, as hopefully, we would be able to get our hands on copper, using it to make walls actually capable of killing predators trying to jump into the area inside.

Everything went about as expected, and we were able to set up another two houses before it was lunchtime, at which point, just like yesterday, I took a jaguar carcass on my boat while Daniel just took more pillars and planks.

Once we got there, we set up a campfire and began cooking the carcass after setting up a wooden rotary stick. As we had lunch though, a group of nomads came out from the wilderness, this time though, they went straight for the attack, unlike the others.

At first, I thought they would try and kill us, but it appeared that they were after the food, so I just signaled everyone to back off and let them have it; we still had meat back at the settlement anyway.

And while this did cause the great majority of them to stop their charge and begin to savagely eat the jaguar carcass like they had been starving for weeks (which their appearance seemed to suggest), unlike every other time I had done something like this, there were two who continued with their attack despite no longer having a reason to.

So, before they could kill or ever hurt any of us, I restrained one of them after tripping the other, restrained by Omar, who just imitated what I was doing. And although it was dangerous, both me and Omar threw them towards the already half-devoured jaguar carcass, which they began eating almost immediately.

As easily as I could have killed them, I assumed that they had only done it because they were hungry and perhaps hadn't noticed that we had given up the meat. If they did turn out to see us as a threat still and tried to kill us for no reason though, I wouldn't hesitate to end their lives.

Personally, although I was heavily against the idea of murdering another human being, the only reason that was, was because as humans, we were creatures capable of comprehending and understanding our situations and then acting upon them accordingly, meaning that we were able to reason and understand, we were not savages.

And although sometimes, very rarely, having to kill another human for survival was somewhat justifiable. Once a human made the conscious decision to kill someone for no reason, they stopped being human. They became merely a savage, in my eyes at least.

Once they finished their meal, they still looked at us in extreme distrust. On the bright side though, they weren't attacking us anymore, they still looked like they were starving, and some began to make random sounds with a frown on their face and pointing at the empty fireplace, indicating that they were still clearly hungry.

Seeing this, I thought it was the perfect time to bring them back to the settlement as it was going to be easier to get them to join the settlement if they were able to interact with other nomads. So I signaled to myself, the empty campfire, made the signaled for everybody to follow me, and then began walking in the direction the settlement was in basically offering them food if they followed.

Contrary to what I had expected, although still looking at us with suspicion, the entire tribe of what looked to be 23 people followed us without much hesitation because the person I assumed to be their leader began following us first.

Although we spent an hour and a half jogging back to the settlement, we still made it without losing the tribe in the process. Plus, once we were close enough to the settlement, we began to see some people that had set off to look for us.

From there, once they were together with other humans, most of them began to calm down and look at us with a lot more trust than before; there were still some, however, who seemed to become more suspicious of us.

Once we arrived, I just went over to the food boxes we had and began cooking food to let them socialize with the other people here while the food was cooking. Once the food was done, I just passed it to them and walked over to see just how many wooden pillars and planks they had made while I was gone.

Right before I was too far away though, I could see from the corner of my eye that some of the nomads that had been looking at us with extreme distrust before were beginning to make their way over to the food storage boxes slowly.

Although logic dictated that at worst, the only thing that could happen would be that they would just eat all of the meat in the boxes raw, which at worst, would just mean that we would have to hunt for more food today and set back the building of the new settlement by a day. For some reason, my gut was telling me that something much worse was going to happen.

And as much as I trusted that the nomads were civilized enough not to do anything crazy, as they were within our territory and being treated fairly, I made my way back to where everyone was and grabbed my ax just in case, as they said, it was better to be safe than sorry.
