All Hell Breaks Loose

They were riding along and enjoying themselves as the other cars were ALL driving the speed limit for the first time, ever. The reason is that they had police cars flying past them in the left lane with their sirens blaring.

Cody was rubbing his hands, unsure of what to do without his phone. Betty had made comments on it all week, it sucked.

'No reddit, twitter, discord, DISCORD. Omg, James is gonna' be pissed.'

Cody was freaking out as they went over the Kanawha River only to see a road block?

Ira rolled the window down and hollered at another car, "Howdy! Any i'deer what they are doin'?"

The lady just looked worried and shook her head.

Papaw just nodded and smiled really wide for the child in the passenger seat.

Betty waved at the other drivers and Cody felt awkward in the middle. He had firearms poking him in..strange..places, and on top of that, he smelled cake like it was sitting right next to him.

After a few minutes the line rolled along and it was finally their turn to speak with the barricade holders.

"Hi, can I ask for your reason for visiting?" The tone in his voice expressed boredom.

"We are just trying to seek shelter, not sure what is going on around here anymore, ya' know?" Ira tried to lean out and look around the station they had set up.

The young man nodded, "Well, we are nearing capacity and the city is going to struggle. You can go on in, but expect to sleep in your vehicle tonight."

Ira just smiled, "We will do that, you folks have a grand day."

He waved at them all, they looked confused as he took off and rolled into town.

----------

"Come on over here Cody, help me with this tent." Ira waddled over and got the hammer for the stakes, grabbed rope and the tarp.

Cody nodded and pulled out the instructions from the tent bag.

'Let's see here…..we need some shade but branches should be avoided, we could do the sidewalk, but we would get kicked out. Shouldn't really tie it to a tree unless we will be permanent and who knows how long this will be for-'

"Son, what are you doin'?" Ira just looked confused, "Didn't you go to college? It is a freakin' tent'. Just. Just come on."

He followed his Papaw as he let out a dramatic sigh for no reason.

"Tie the loop around it, there ya' go. Now the other one." They were quickly assembling the tent, making sure to secure the stakes incase of heavy wind for some reason.

"Now the sticks." Cody said as they slid them in.

"Good job, son." Ira smacked Cody on the shoulder and nearly knocked him over.

They chuckled, "Boy, we gotta' get some meat on those bones soon."

They went over and helped Betty get the grill ready as she had some beef thawing out on a rock.

"Grandma, do you have to cook, like, everywhere?" He smiled and Ira walked away, not getting into that trap.

Betty huffed, "Hush now, I do not cook everywhere. Now, go be useful." She leaned in and kissed him on the cheek.

Cody wandered over to the bed of the truck and got the tarp set up so the food and supplies wouldn't get wet if it rained suddenly.

After making sure everything was locked up and secure, they headed around town and noticed a large video feed in the town square.

Speakers were playing, "As you can see here, we have some sort of animalistic creature that has been eating the smaller animals in the neighborhood. It is advised to shoot them on sight, they have bitten multiple people and those people have developed a strange case of necrotic tissue." The footage showed a small dog that appeared to have its skin removed.

"Is that a zombie wolf?" Cody was confused at the casual disregard of a potential zombie apocalypse, 'Clearly we didn't make enough movies.'

He shook his head and tried to explain his thoughts on this to his Grandparents. They of course nodded sagely.

Nearly 9 thousand people must have been in this square as they were standing shoulder to shoulder and the grass was getting muddy.

"BREAKING NEWS! WE HAVE WORD FROM THE PENTAGON," the speaker was booming to cover the whispers of the crowd that were turning into a roar.

"Hello, this is NBC, we have just received word that the United States is going into a State of Emergency as the city of Boston has just been attacked by a large creature of some sort. We have live footage, please, brace yourself."

The screen cut to a steady footage of a 15 foot turtle rampaging with magic lines all over its back.

'Oh my god, magic?' Cody was speechless for a few moments.

The turtle suddenly turned towards the APC (Armored Personnel Carrier) and unleashed a giant beam of blue energy that stopped it and immediately began to freeze it to the ground.

Men jumped out of the vehicle with their bodies steaming as they quickly thawed and began to bleed from their ice burns.

"Holy shit…" Cody was gripping his pistol tightly.

The turtle let out a roar that was making the microphone peak, but the blood from the ears of those on camera made it clear that it was loud.

Ice slowly formed on the turtle as it seemingly made armor for itself.

The microphone came back and it was just a constant ringing of gunfire.

"Jesus, that thing is getting hit with .50 Cal bullets and it is shaking it off." Ira stood firm and watched those brave men do everything they could to kill it, until the video suddenly cut.

"Boy. We need a new plan." Ira didn't even look around. He and the other veterans knew that they had zero shot at taking something like that out with their puny .30-06 rounds that could blow a fist sized hole in a man.

The news feed slowly stopped and began to rewind slightly.

[Hello. Welcome to the Seventh Dimension, Earthlings.] Then suddenly everything went blank.
