"So, your telling me that he kidnapped you out of jealousy?" a policeman asked.
After the ordeal with the Scarecrow, he went back to the police station to answer some questions.
He had already done that, he was just currently filling some old police buddies in on the whole situation.
"Let me put it like this. Growing up Jonathan Crane was a genius. He had always been the smartest person in the room and considered everyone else to be lesser than him in comparison."
"When he became a teacher things weren't any different. He was much smarter than all the other teachers at Gotham University. But him working at a school made his superiority much more apparent as teachers at GU are people who respect intelligence above all other traits."
The policemen nod at his statement as GU was a top level university and all of its students and teachers are Gotham's Elites.
"So unlike other places that will mock him or express disgust at his obsession with fear, the teachers at GU just ignored him as even though they disliked him his methods were effective."
"This arrangement goes on for several years with the teachers distaste towards the man growing by the day before something changes. The school hired two new teachers."
"These teachers are young, brilliant, attractive, and above all else kind. They should have been working for some big company but for some reason they decided to become teachers instead."
"Some time goes by and the teachers and students alike realize the absolute genius of these two teachers. But there is one who they become amazed by a very handsome man who is so gifted at what he does that he has trouble putting it into words that can be understood by his students."
"People start comparing the young, kind, and extremely handsome genius to the older, lanky, fear inducing genius. But the younger one seems superior to the older one so they start discussing this with their colleges."
"After a while these discussions get blown out of proportion and people are calling the once superior Jonathan Crane, an inferior man in comparison the younger super handsome genius."
"Then the older man makes a mistake and gets fired. But as he gets fired he once again gets hit in the face by a comparison the the absolutely unparalleled handsome genius teacher."
"This forms a grudge so he goes home, makes a his fear toxin and comes back for revenge with his primary target being the young genius that looked so handsome that even god became jealous of him.
"This all making sense to you?" Drystan asked as he finished explaining to the policemen.
The police looked at him and said "So the moral of the story is that your handsome?"
Drystan had a look of astonishment on his face as he replied incredulously "How did you come to that conclusion? While I appreciate the compliment the point is that he felt inferior and was bitter so he attacked out of jealousy."
They all looked at him with a deadpan expression before turning and leaving him without giving him any other reply's.
Drystan having cheered himself up slightly with his narcissistic story went to leave the police station.
But as he was heading towards the door he heard someone call out to him "Mr. Doyle, its good to see you here again."
Turning around Drystan saw the one and only Commissioner Gordan.
Drystan quickly sent the man a salute "Commissioner Gordan, sadly I'm not here under good circumstances."
"Yes, I had heard. I had hoped that the next time you came here you would be looking for a job, not because you were the victim of a crime.
"Unfortunately things turned out that way Sir."
"Would you join me for a chat in my office?"
"Of course Sir."
So Drystan followed Commissioner Gordan to his office where they closed the door to have a private conversation.
"First things first, thanks you for putting my daughters safety first, I owe you one." he said with a slight bow of the head.
Just a slight one though as this is America and we don't really tend to bow often.
Drystan just laughed and said "That makes it three favors you owe me Uncle James."
James returned it with a laugh and said "I guess so, I really need to start paying those back."
After he finished college at the age of sixteen, he immediately joined Gotham PD as a forensic scientist.
But even before that he had been close to James as he looked out for him after his parents death, probably trying to keep Drystan on a good path after he saw how Bruce self destructed.
He had taken James as a de facto father figure and had called him uncle since he was thirteen.
"So your really not coming back then?" James asked.
"No. I cant stay here anymore after the whole situation with Mr. Nigma."
When he worked for GPD's forensics department he was the assistant to Edward Nigma.
Mr. Nigma didn't really seem to mesh with other people as they couldn't decipher his jokes and riddles.
But Drystan could, so he learned to appreciate the mans brilliance as he could think of a riddle for almost any situation and could solve difficult crimes faster than anyone else on the taskforce.
Mr. Nigma also seemed to appreciate Drystans intelligence as they became quite close.
Sadly Mr. Nigma went down a path of crime and became a criminal known as the Riddler.
Drystan worked with James Gordan to decipher his riddles and the two of them successfully arrested the Riddler.
That was the final case that Drystan worked on though as the betrayal of Mr. Nigma caused him to fall in a depression for a while causing him to quit working for the police.
"Do you still visit him?"
"No, not since he used me to escape a couple years ago."
Two years ago he still visited Edward Nigma despite his serious crimes, but was used in his plot to escape.
Drystan didn't get in trouble as he didn't try to help Nigma escape, but being used by someone he still considered a close friend was the last straw for him so he stopped visiting the Riddler and chose to ignore his existence.
They sat there in silence thinking about the past for a moment before Drystan let out a cough and changed the subject.
"Anyways, It took eight years but I've finally met your daughter old man."
Drystan and James continued to talk until James had to focus on work and Drystan headed home to contemplate on another day in the life.
