I walked into Pentagon and saw my sister, Weird with a few other FBI agents trying to get in. One of the soldiers pushed the FBI aside and made way for me. I walked in and was given a special key card by the Secretary of Defense. He escorted me to the elevator which took me to the secret basement level where I do my work. I was working on an AI that assesses threats and warns the authorities. I was also working on a new supercomputer for the government.
I walked out for my tea break and the FBI were questioning population of the building regarding something or the other. I walked towards the exit when the lady with the Afro asked me to come over and answer a few questions. I told them it can wait till I have eaten something. She pursed her lips but said nothing. I ate a chocolate croissant and had iced tea. I walked towards the private elevator when the woman called me again. The man she just finished interview growled, "Leave her out of this. She wasn't here that day. She only comes with scheduled appointments. She comes only three days a week. This happened on the day she was absent so leave her out of this or I will happily make a phone call and you will lose your badge." This seemed to resonate with the others and I was allowed to pass.
When I was done I walked to my car to go home. The Feds were waiting for me as always. This time a burly man was looking at me with interest. I asked if he was lost and waiting for directions he chuckled. "You rescued me from a POW camp. I was told that this is a habit you inherited from your older brothers." I clued him in, "My family has been rescuing soldiers from POW camps since World War 1. It is the primary rule of our family. All of my siblings had participated in this tradition except for this coward here. They have rescued many. From sunken submarines to POW camps. I have lost count." He raised his eyebrows in shock. Even Weird took a step back in surprise. My sister on the other hand looked like this was breaking news. He gave me a salute, "I am honored to meet you." I saluted him back, "Back at you" and walked towards the car. Benji came running and he froze when he saw Angie and said, "You look familiar." I answered, "She is the deserter." This earned her an angry look from Benji as well. He stuck his hand and said, "You win." I laughed, "Benji! I have forgotten how many bets I have made with you so enlightened me." He forgot his sister's birthday. I shook my head and opened the seat. There was a small present I had chosen for this moment. "Freshly sourced pearl earrings. Not cultured ones but real ones" he accepted the gift in exchange for an I Owe You note. He waited until I drove off before he walked back inside. A few SUVs followed me to my office. When I got out a short slightly chubby man stepped out of his SUV and talked to me like I was his best friend. I ignored him and walked forward. A few paces later he decided that he should get my attention by grabbing my arm which was the worst mistake of his life. I screamed and everyone waiting by the elevator came charging towards him to break his arm. He saw this and raised his hands to say I surrender. I asked him to leave and asked the protectors if they were here regarding a silver star or a job or for medical reasons. It was all the above. I smiled, "My office is this way. I am sorry to keep you waiting." They laughed, "Waiting for you is less time-consuming than waiting in the Pentagon." I chuckled to agree with them, "The third floor is for job hunting. The fourth floor is for medical assistance and my office is where I can help you get the silver star." They happily pressed the relevant floor I recommended and off we went.
