Chapter 28

I bathed and changed as quickly as I could. I came out because I heard excited cheers. The older dragons were cheering and applauding as they looked up. I turned my head in the same direction to see the kids jumping from the edge of the nose one by one. They turned into cute baby dragons. They flew in circles before they dove into the sea. When they returned to the ribs to eat I turned into bats and flew around as well. I danced around in the air in swirls before I changed back and landed butt first into the lagoon. I laughed and swam around before I got bored and returned to the sandy shore and sat on a rock. When I felt I was dry enough I got up to see the kids were sitting next to me. They sweet innocent smiling faces were admiring me.

The older dragons approached me and were curious that I can do that. I told them that not all vampires can do that. I had to prove it the usual way. I told them that I felt like they didn't trust me. They politely explained that people like to keep them in the dark. They are tired of being lied to and used. I was the only one who had bothered to tell them what was going on. The usual reply they received when they ask what is going on is this does not concern you or it is something we can handle or please stay out of it. Then out of nowhere they are dragged and dropped into the middle of the shenanigan. That is why they stopped helping. Dragons like honest people and they are very sincere so they hurt when they are ill-treated. I agreed with them since I had my fair share of that growing up.

I went to sleep and James tried to flit into my head. I had joked with Dracula in the past that James might do this. But I had assumed he wouldn't. He couldn't go far since Zuni woke me up. I was taken to the hip bone of Drogon's skeleton. There was a small turquoise pool. Which was surrounded by sleeping dragons. I dipped my head in the pool and mentally called out to James. He reached out to me. The moment I responded Zuni was about to do something but the dragons suddenly appeared. They nudged her aside and stepped forward. James raised his hands to say that he came in peace. They extended their claw and touched my chest. I saw something that was barely visible. They flicked their finger again a little aggressive this time a thin red line the width of human hair flared from my chest for a moment. It started as a thread but it became like chains. It bound me to James. They had found the connection between me and James. All of them took a step back and took a deep breath and pretended they were a bunch of flamethrowers. They burned the thread. It was destroyed without a moment's delay. I knew that they destroyed the connection when James disappeared. I jumped out of the pool and saw the dragons smiling at me. I thanked them by hugging them. I was told they don't like to hug people. I didn't care since I was feeling safe.

A few moments later a few dozen witches shot out of a fire and were dumped into a pit. The dragons breathed their angriest flames and the witches turned to ashes. They took a handful of water from the pool and sprinkled it onto the ashes. The ashes sank to the earth and out came granite and marble eggs bigger than ostrich eggs. They were pulled out of the pit as they popped out. When they were done. The eggs were placed where the heart is situated. It looked like it was four cauldrons lined with charcoal. The eggs were arranged and the heart was immediately set ablaze. The eggs were kept at a steady temperature to ensure that they all hatched at the same time. I was escorted back to the brain. I asked Zuni to make me forget how dragons are made so it stays a secret. She waved her hand and I only recalled the moment James was evicted from my head. What happened after was a blank. I lay down and curled into a ball on the carpet.

I saw a dream where I went back to Grandpa's. It looked even more unrecognizable. I even saw that Mickey had grown old. He saw me and started shouting about how I was young while he was old. I pretended not to know him. One of the elderly whacked him with his cane and told him to stop his tall tales. I walked up to my house and found another family living there. I saw that my friends were dead. I saw that I was alone. I started to cry and Drake sat next to me. He hugged me and took me to Australia. I got to see the luminous planktons along the beach and it was surreal. I gave him a hug when the real Drake stomped towards me angrily and dragged me away from my dream version. He was so jealous that it was comical. I laughed so hard. He was not amused. He prefers to be here by my side than an imaginary version of himself. He waited till I calmed down but I woke up before he could say anything. I was laughing and so was Zuni.

I was asked to come back to Drake's castle. He was happy to see me. I was told that everything was settled. James was escorted to Belarus kicking and screaming. He did not send me his regards. He wrote me a note pleading that I should reconsider having Drake as my husband. I was told that Drake will do something that will convince me that he should be killed just like he is killed in the books. I gave the note to Drake and left to take a shower.

When I came out I was met with a few dragons. They had decided to see what it was like in Drake's castle. It was to their liking so they stayed till they felt homesick. They joined us for dinner and it was fun. They watched as Drake and I danced the night away. One of the dragons made it clear if Drake dies they will come to take me to Drogon's Isle. I thought it was Drogon's cove. I was educated by eight grammatically correct dragons that it was Isle. I got a call from Grandpa that he wasn't well. I asked Drake to take me to him. He decided to join me. I just hope it won't have any more surprises waiting for me.
