Chapter 30

I was given a tour of my new home in the jungles of the Amazon. The front door was hidden cleverly under the roots of a few huge trees. The walls were barely visible to the naked eye. There were monkeys swinging on vines and a few were arguing with each other while others were jumping up and down on branches. Also snakes of different types and sizes were slithering on the paved stone and the grasses. A few gators coming out of the Amazon river and started roaming outside as a finishing touch. Vines and roots were hanging all over the place. Butterflies, moths and birds flew around creating a beautiful scenery. Multi colored poisonous frogs hopped and croaked here and there. As always the lobby had two front desks to cater to both sides. Creatures from both sides swore their allegiance to be neutral as they started to work. The lobby had chairs arranged in groups and were coordinated to be close to the respective desk that represented the persons in question. The lobby and dining hall were Amazonian style designs. There even was a swimming pool. The rooms were named after people or tribes of the Amazon. There was the Tikuna room, Kulina room, and the Mashco Piro room. Each has its own tone and vibe. The doors would disappear to imitate the wall. It only appears to welcome its designated guest and for the cleaning crew. But other than that they remained hidden. The walls had tribal carvings, vines, and roots going here and there to imitate an ancient ruin kind of theme.

I inspected every room after which I was shown the exits and entrances. I had the authority to close all entrances so I kept one entrance open while I had the others blocked unless there was an emergency. I was inspired by Oymyakon. So I made sure that no one can come here other than through the front door. The only other portal I allowed open was made only for water creatures. As for using a portal to get here I made sure that they can only teleport or open a portal to one spot. This spot is in the middle of the lobby. It is surrounded by carvings of horrific creatures. I am told they will attack the intruders. Which is the only reason I asked that they teleport from that spot. They can only arrive here only if they specifically think of this place. So they can't say they came here by accident. They seemed amused by my train of thought. I asked if they approve of my idea. They believe it was an excellent idea. I was shown my office and what the purpose of the swimming pool.

It turns out it was a death pool. It is used to administer punishment. The pool looked like it was made of liquid mercury. The surface from time to time would be still and it looked like it had a mirror finish. Then the stillness would be disturbed by ripples that would appear from the edge that would spread out. Occasionally a few skulls would appear on the surface and submerge again. They looked like they were screaming in pain.

There was an Inca carved rock mound with a flat rock carved like a coin on the top. The coin top suddenly pushed down and a black liquid oozed out. The liquid pooled itself back on top of the coin in a shapeless mass. Then it disappeared back into the mound revealing a man. He came running and asked me who was in charge of this joint. He wanted sanctuary. I offered it to him and he was escorted to one of the many rooms to hide. Drake told everyone to leave or mind their own business because sanctuary has been invoked. They respectfully bowed and took their place. It seems that they wanted to know me better.

Another man appeared with a spear in the center of the lobby and he was greeted by shooting flames from the ceiling. I looked up to see dragons had decided to visit me. He stood still as though to say he was holding his ground.

The guy should have third degree burns but he didn't. He wasn't even charcoal. So I asked him what was going on and all he said was that the guy I gave sanctuary to would get both worlds in trouble. I decided that for the sake of peace a trial should take place. It will be the deciding factor if he deserves sanctuary or not. They agreed so I set up a room. Two chairs were arranged facing each other. The other chairs were arranged on both sides in a semicircular fashion. They carved some stuff on the floor and they were brought to explain their situation.

First I explained why we were here. Then I explained the rules that they must abide by. I looked at both sides and asked if they had any objections. They declared that they had none. Which made the guy with the spear calm till someone explained that this was now a neutral zone. He looked like he had won the battle. The other guy looked like he should have gone elsewhere. The trial started and both sides were told to present their evidence. The spear guy spoke to have his evidence brought forth first. The other guy kept saying he had immunity. Till it was explained what was going on. He got up and tried to run. I had thought of that and made sure he couldn't. Huge wings appeared on his back and dragged him back. The entire time he was screaming he had sanctuary. I had to explain that if this ruins the fragile peace between both sides then I have no choice but to revoke the sanctuary. That is the purpose of the trail. He made the mistake of saying that I can't revoke it. He did what he felt was right and it didn't matter to him that it was against the law. He said he would do it again even if it means exposing us to humans. I growled, "I Rose proprietor of this neutral zone now hereby declare I have revoked the sanctuary in the name of peace. Take him away" His smug face turned bleak when the spear guy was able to grab his hair and drag him away. This was impossible moments before. The man started begging for help from both sides. They watched as he was taken away.

Since he threatened everybody on my registered land the spear guy asked me how I implemented punishment. I told him to throw him into the death pool. Both sides sent volunteers to help and flung him in. The mercury colored liquid instinctively wrapped itself around him and started to dissolve him to the bone. He screamed in pain till the liquid dissolved him and all that was left was a skeleton. His skull joined the others in the pool. Soon I couldn't tell them apart. I wished everyone a pleasant day and went upstairs and laid down to rest for a few hours.
