The most he could evolve into was indeed just a kitten. He looked at her for her explanation and she slowly told him what happened that night and the past year in Country C with the Juns.
"Jun?" He asked with a questioning gaze as he frowned. Dimitri felt like he indeed did know someone with that surname but it wasn't striking so he could only listen and trust her.
It slowly sank in that his friend died and he didn't even know that it happened. Looking at her new appearance he was finally willing to believe that there are indeed things that are beyond science.
"Why to talk to me now?" he asked in pain as he didn't like that she never tried to reach him all along. Xiulin knew at that moment how selfish she was before she never knew that it was wrong to look for him only when she was bored but she knew it now. After an year spending time with those teenagers, she knew what was wrong and right. So at that moment, she knew it was her mistake and she was willing to accept.
"I'm sorry, I haven't been a great friend. But I need your help and only you could help me. I hope you understand."
His not saying anything also made Xiulin realize that this wasn't enough and that she didn't have the right to ask for help. This made her feel worse. What life has she led before?
"I'll help you," he said stunning her.
"Because you are my only friend," he said as he started the car again. This didn't makes her feel better. How could she take advantage of this innocent kitty? How has he been living all this while in this cruel place? That's when she decided that she has to take special care of this kitty. It's too vulnerable.
He trusted a stranger just like that and is willing to give up his life already. This kitty is very innocent, he is still her lamb.
If only Dimitri knew what was going on in her head, he would kick her out of the car immediately but he was patient as he drove the car to his apartment away from the city.
She asked him general questions like the political changes and how the inner circle is working as if they were talking about the pleasant weather while Dimitri kept up with answering all her questions without a second thought. He knew all the information about the current political situation with the black market involvement.
Xiulin was surprised to see so much change everywhere in the little time she was gone. She looked out in curiosity at his apartments. It was like any *Khrushchyovka around the country but as they took the lift Xiulin felt something amiss. She was sure there were 6 floors but there were only 5 buttons.
She didn't say anything as she looked forward to seeing his house. He leads her to the third floor simply and she didn't say anything. He just looked at her and smiled. He knew what was going on in her head.
They both entered the house casually as he greeted his neighbor an old woman with a hunched back, she smiled wide when she saw Dimitri. Xiulin was surprised to see him go and help her water the plans leaving her at the door.
Seeing the old woman, Xiulin suddenly missed the Jun ancestral house. The happiness of playing with Grandpa Jun or talking to Grandma Jun had a calming effect on her. And now seeing Dimitri like this she knew that she was missing them terribly and hoped her escape wasnt creating a huge issue in the city.
He joined her again as they entered the house. It was like any place in the country with just a small kitchen, and living room with two bedrooms with attached bathrooms. There was nothing to be suspicious about or so they think. But she felt there was something wrong with one of the bathrooms. It was very small but with how she saw from the outside. It was supposed to be bigger than this.
But she didn't say anything as he showed her the whole house. Dimitri knew that she already figured out his secret just by seeing the washroom but he didn't say anything as he went to prepare her some lunch.
Xiulin sniffed the food slowly as she took a bite. The way the stew just melted on her tongue reminded her of home. She was finally here and that hit her at that moment.
Dimitri looked at her with a smile as she completed half of the stew by herself without caring about him.
"What's the plan now?" he asked as she scooped up the last spoon.
"Getting to my brother and earning his trust," Xiulin said and surprisingly she still didn't understand how she was going to approach one of the world's most wanted criminals. He is very hard to catch. She knew the way to her house. But getting even in a 50 km radius to it without a proper reason or job, they would be shot on sight.
Dimitri nodded seriously as he tried to think of something himself to push her closer to Adrian. But Adrian has been on run for a while, and now his path has been almost near to nonexistent.
