Chp 12:Night lessons

It's night and I still feel the bruising after being thrown down a cliff by Fubuki this early afternoon. For the past 2 weeks, Calli has been making me do normal muscle training and strength measurements. In the training field, there was only me and Calli Facing against each other in the roaring blizzard. Wearing a casual outfit, she said.

"I won't be teaching you how to fight monsters, but I will only teach you how to fight against humans."[Calli]

"Why?" [Edge]

I was disappointed because I thought I can learn how to hunt down monsters bigger than my size just like Miko, and hunting monsters are cooler in my opinion.

"I'm teaching you how to survive, and humans are the biggest threat to your survival."[Calli]

"Why? Aren't monsters more powerful?"[Edge]

"If you learn the way to slay monsters you would be a stranger to the way of facing a human. Once you know how to fight against a human, a monster is just a bigger lump of flesh waiting to be cut down."[Calli]

"I understand."[Edge]

Calli stood defenselessly and said,

"For our first lesson, you'll have to fight me."[Calli]

Calli pointed her thumb at herself while looking at me. She picked up a long club. She then opens both of her arms and spoke.

"Now, come to papa."[Calli]

With nervousness, I lowered myself and circled around Calli. After I readied myself I lunged at her from behind. With nimble footwork, she evaded my lunge and stood facing me casually.

"You need to use your advantage Edge." [Calli]

If it was anyone else saying this, I would have regarded it as bullshit but the Calli I know would never say anything unnecessary. I tried a few more times to try to catch her off guard even throwing snow to block her view but it all failed.

I was going to throw in the towel until the scene of Calli holding the club makes a resemblance to a scene I saw before. I ran in front of Calli and ran towards her at a moderate speed. Whenever she swings down her club, I evaded at the moment the club has determined its trajectory just like how Miko did. I evaded In a zigzag pattern until I reached her feet. I slid in between her legs, but before I could try to grab onto it and trip her, a fist descended as quick as lightning. I immediately hardened my Ki to withstood her blow.

*Bang*

I sunk into the snow and my Ki barrier shattered.

"*Cough**Cough*"[Edge]

"Aaaand you're dead.*Guh*" [Calli]

"Your life as a hunter may be short-lived. But now you get to be a warrior, well isn't that great?"[Calli]

"Ok, I admit that you may be right."[Edge]

I can't fully trust her, but at least she is teaching me how to fend for myself. Maybe it's just me, maybe I want it to be right about her trying to deceive me. But I just couldn't get through the incident regarding the map.

"Your activation speed passes, still need some work on the sturdiness." [Calli]

"Thanks, I practiced a lot."[Edge]

Calli sat down on a rock and waved her hand, the blizzard cleared up and revealed a portion of the night sky.

"So how's your progress with Mio?"[Calli]

Every night Calli asks me to give a report of our progress to determine if we are working in the right direction.

"So in conclusion it has great flexibility and balance, high power, and the body seems to be spiritual."[Edge]

"You were very close, but you missed something."[Calli]

"What! Even after we could get a picture of what it looks like?And that we made it ride a bike?"[Edge]

"Yes I believe you haven't pointed out the full range of its capabilities"[Calli]

"MMMM"[Edge]

I felt frustrated, with the amount of evidence it should be enough for Calli to accept that I finished the job.

"Edge, be patient, don't let the moment of impulse cloud your eyes. Just a further more and I believe you will find what you look for."[Calli]

"Figuring it out is just like drawing a picture with these stars, you drew a picture of your own by connecting lines with the stars. But to find what you missed, you should try to let the stars guide you which to connect"[Calli]

It was a piece of sound advice. I feel my mind is cleared up from Calli's words. But I hope sometimes she can speak normally instead of making every challenge I face sound mystified or needing to conceptualize things.

After keeping in for a week I finally gained the courage and decided to ask Calli about the meaning of my name Edgelord.

"You still have *Guh* something to say to me?" [Calli]

"How do you know that?" [Edge]

"I'm your Dad *Guh*, Of course, I knew. You always keep glancing at me when you need something." [Calli]

My face turns red from feeling being exposed by Calli about my weird behavior.

"So what do you need? do you miss sleeping with Daddy? Too bad not today, I have a parents teacher meeting after this and it will get late." [Calli]

I steeled my nerves and breath in deep breaths.I spoke

"I want to know the meaning behind my name!" [Edge]

Calli was shocked but then she smiled happily and wriggle around with joy

"Hahahahaha I know one day you would be intrigued by it. But judging from your usual demeanor I get the feeling that you would never ask me about it. So what's changed? "[Calli]

I told her the conversation between me and Mio excluding the meaning of the kazoo to me.

"Listen closely, the reason I named you edgelord is that you're always on edge. You're always careful, you move gradually but with uncertainty."[Calli]

"Hence, I hope you would be the best at it, to be always on edge, to be able to be more careful than anyone else and to move gradually but with certainty until you reach your goal."[Cali]

"Therefore, Edgelord what do you think?"[Calli]

"I feel...., I don't know what to feel. But I think I owe you an apology and thank you for giving me a wonderful name Calli."[Edge]

"You're welcomed, you should sleep now. After all, you got work kid."[Calli]

"But i still don't get what 360noscope would mean"[Edge]

"Well, that my boy is a ghost story reserved by Fubuki for some other time."[Calli]
