Chapter 16:Collector

The next morning, I went to look for Fubuki in her usual spot, storage number 3. It is the only place that Fubuki never showed to us during the tour.I knocked on the door hard so that she could hear me. The door opened and a pair of frosty white ears peeked out of the door.

"What do you need Edge, as you can see I'm busy. So, if it's nothing important please wait until lunch."[Fubuki]

"I have a secret I would like to share, Can I trust you?" [Edge]

My voice is filled with anxiety and I looked like I haven't slept in days. Fubuki looks seemingly conflicted but lets me in the storage.

"Alright fine, get in."[Fubuki]

"Thanks"[Edge]

Once inside I noticed a huge chunk of ice in the corner of the room and it contains a blue-haired elf within it. The features of the frozen elf look stunning as if it was sculpted by god. But underneath it was a wooden bucket that contains the melting ice water.

"Who is that?"[Edge]

"Someone extremely dangerous that lost to Calli in a drinking game."[Fubuki]

Fubuki sensing the bucket is almost full, replaced it with another new bucket. However, she didn't throw away the water collected from the melted ice. Instead, she was filling them into separate smaller containers at a trained pace.

"What are you going to do with the water?" [Edge]

"As you can see I'm packaging them for sale.."[Fubuki]

"Is the water special?"[Edge]

"Nope, it's just something any ice user could make"[Fubuki]

"So she's special then?"[Edge]

"Bingo"[Fubuki]

"Couldn't you just use your own ice instead when the ice melts so slow and so little is produced at a time? I don't think anyone would've noticed."[Edge]

"I had the same thought, so I tried it before but some oji-san noticed it immediately. Luckily the other buyers weren't as sharp as her."

Fubuki finished her task and packaged it in boxes to be sent in the next delivery. She sat down opposite of me and urged me to start.

"My secret is that I don't trust Calli."[Edge]

Fubuki widened her eyes and removed her glasses. Maybe she is trying to attentively hear out and discuss my problem.

"I was picked up by Calli close to a year ago, I was told that I faced a dragon but there were no wounds or any marks on my body."

"I see, there is only 1 dragon in the Clover continent, and it never left the Asacoco district for years. Maybe you really faced her and Calli healed your wounds."[Fubuki]

"How far is Sike Mura From Asacoco district" [Edge]

"10 days" [Fubuki]

"I knew it!" [Edge]

"The reaper's skeletal horses can travel without rest, it could cut short the journey by half" [Fubuki]

"Not fast enough, She told me I passed out for 3 days, there's no way for us to reach Sike Mura from Asacoco district in 3 days. Besides, we were hiding in someone else's wagon to travel."[Edge]

"You see, I get the feeling that you already know about all of this to be a lie so what's really weighing on you right now?"

I took in a deep breath and sighed.

"The map, She never gave me a map." [Edge]

"A map? Why wouldn't she give you one?" [Fubuki]

"She said she never carried one, and Miko followed us in a hurry so she forgot hers.Polka said that they don't sell maps for national security and when i finally got one from Pekora i found out that Calli had been giving me the wrong impression that we're heading in North but we're actually heading East."[Fubuki]

"What are you talking about? Show me the map." [Fubuki]

I took out the map I brought with me and Fubuki took a quick look.

"There's nothing wrong with this map, I mean it's even better than the ones we have." [Fubuki]

"Look at the cardinal directions" [Edge]

"The directi-"[Fubuki]

"See it says we're up east but Calli says we're heading North! I couldn't believe this as well, why would someone so desperately hide the direction we're heading?"[Edge]

"Pfff..." [Fubuki]

"Are you alright friend?" [Fubuki]

"HAHAHAHHAAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH"[Fubuki]

"Fubuki?"[Edge]

"HAHAHA I'm sorry edge, can we show this to Mio-sha as well?"[Fubuki]

"Sure I guess?"[Edge]

We showed the map to Mio along with some explanations. Mio laughed so hard that she kept wheezing and gasping for air. Afterward, we went back to Fubuki's lair and She asked something strange.

"Can I make a copy of this? I have a feeling it would make a great meme."[Fubuki]

"A meme? What's that" [Edge]

Fubuki pulled the curtains behind her and there were many rows of bookshelves full of her personal collection. She explained what a meme was and took me to the meme section.

"These are all memes I managed to collect over the years and this one was auctioned in the Asacoco underground meme market.OH oh, okay this one is very special and probably the last piece in the world."[Fubuki]

The meme showed an orange-haired girl with horns, red eyes, and no nose. It writes 'I dropped my nose, did you see it somewhere?'."

"I don't see anything special about this." [Edge]

"We can't make memes that might direct any personal attack to anyone nowadays so this holds historical value when we could still make fun of others back in the old days." [Fubuki]

"Next we go to the glasses section"[Fubuki]

"Wait friend, What about my problem, we haven't solved it yet." [Edge]

Fubuki smiled and stroked my head.

"I believe you should confront her about it." [Fubuki]

"What if she lies to me again?" [Edge]

"Then it's up to you whether you find her lies acceptable."[Fubuki]

"..."[Edge]

"You can trust me, it will work out." [Edge]

Fubuki is asking me to trust her, hence I trusted her and decided to confront Cali in order to focus on my ability training without any other worries.
