Chapter 18:Hesitation
I've been here for a total of 2 years and 11 months, Life here is always the same, We take turns making meals, and Hatotaurus wash the dishes. I spend my morning helping out Mio with her documents, afternoon playing around with Fubuki, and training with Calliope in the evening. But one day it came to me, why is Mio staying here instead of staying in the Capital of Yamato? So I decided to ask her that.
"Mio-sha, why do you stay here in this cold barren place instead of Yamato. "[Edge]
MIo looked slightly saddened and then she spoke with certainty.
"It's because of Fubuki."[Mio]
I instantly understood her because...
"Isn't that why you haven't tried to retrieve the sword as well?"[Mio]
"I'm not sure what to do after I leave here, I don't know if I want to leave her alone in this mountain. She's my only friend after all."[Edge]
"Oh Edge."[Mio]
Mio pats her lap. Like a trained puppy I snuggled onto Mio's lap Just like normal.
"You don't have to worry about her, I'll be here for her so you should just focus on doing what you needed to do. Just grab the sword and go, you have given us such wonderful memories to remember to me and also Fubuki. You don't owe us anything. "[Mio]
"Besides, she may be your first and only friend for now, but she would be even sadder if she becomes your last and only friend. She's a good kid and she never regarded here as her prison. It's a place that she could enjoy doing what she likes the most. So I think you should leave by this week."[Mio]
"That's too sudden."[Edge]
"It's what's necessary, besides the accessories would be done by then."[Mio]
My other ability that is related to the wall allows me to read the contents of the wall. I trained hard on it in my free time. Afterward, we experimented with Hatotaurus if he could damage it with his strength. Hatotaurus managed to blow a chunk of the wall out and I was allowed to use it to train my ability. Apparently, using the wall I could store memories, emotions and also read them. When I store it in the chunks of the walls, it turns the wall white. In the span of a year, I managed to also inscribe my ability on anything that could leave a mark for others to see. However, due to the properties of the medium, the effectiveness may vary. Therefore the wall works best with my ability. After I taught it to them apparently they learned my ability as well. Hence, we are now making accessories by shaping the chunks of the walls using Hatotaurus's strength and precision. They told me it would be a wondrous device for transferring information.
Afternoon strikes, I went to Fubuki who is guiding Hatotaurus on shaping the fragments of the wall
"Yes you are doing well, as expected you're the strongest, Hatotaurus!"[Fubuki]
"Fubuki"[Edge]
"Hey edge, I'm kinda busy right now, I'll be right back when I finish this one."[Fubuki]
with slight hesitation, I spoke to her.
"I'm leaving..."[Edge]
I can see Fubuki's ears drooped down a little but they went straight back up. She turned towards me with a bright smile.
"That's great, I may be feeling a little bit sad but I feel happy that you are finally ready for the world." [Fubuki]
With a genuine smile, she looked straight at me.
"So... when are you leaving?..." [Fubuki]
"When the accessories are finished"[Edge]
"I see, well then I wish you luck on your journey. Hatotaurus can be a birdbrain so I should get back to it" [Fubuki]
There is only one last thing I need to know from her.
"Fubuki! Wait!"[Edge]
Fubuki turned back and faced me.
"Can you tell me the meaning behind my name that you gave me?" [Edge]
Fubuki let out a smug look and proudly laughed
"HAHAHAHAHA, I thought it out right after our second class. Aren't I great?"[Fubuki]
"It-"[Fubuki]
I cut her off to make sure of one thing.
"It didn't come from a meme, did it?" [Edge]
"Eh..."[Fubuki]
Seeing the hesitation in her eyes I was convinced that it was from a meme.
"I knew it."[Edgelord]
"NO NO NO... Hahah*Awkward laugh* I wouldn't do that to you, friend. It wasn't a meme I can assure you of that hehe*Awkward laugh*." [Fubuki]
"Alright let's hear it." [Edge]
"Before we start, do you believe in ghosts?"[Fubuki]
"Calliope told me they weren't real"[Edge]
"I see, a confirmation from the reaper is most certainly assuring.."[Fubuki]
"The story begins 111 years ago when the Lost continent Exodus disappeared along with our former Beast God. 2 years after the incident, a rabbit appeared and offered all of us a map claiming it contains the location of the capital of Exodus. But there's a catch, she only made 1 map and everyone fought for it."[Fubuki]
"Why would they fight for it when they could share it."[Edge]
"Exodus is a highly advanced city and you can't split the spoils evenly in these kinds of cases. You wouldn't want to give your enemy a gun that will point against you anyways."
"I see."[Edge]
"So anyways That was what we called the First Great Prank War. Slime traps, magma traps, and also poison were used. Our troops were ambushed by invisible forces all the time."[Fubuki]
"And one of the threats at the time was the ghost, it has no scent, makes no sound and you can't sense its presence by all means. The peculiar thing about it is that it only targets snipers probably because they are the safest on the battlefield. All the snipers that reported meeting it heard the sound of 'KIKIKIKI' before their nightmare began."[Fubuki]
"What did it do?"[Edge]
"Their location gets exposed to the enemy, poisoned, kicked on, chased by the enemy, humiliated and finally declared not fit for duty."[Fubuki]
"Then it was during the war in the Holy State of God. The First Beast God, in the heat of the battle, she met it."[Fubuki]
"And then?"[Edge]
I didn't notice that I became so absorbed in the story that I started cutting her while talking about the story. But Fubuki did not mind.
"Beast God did not choose to resign to her fate and did something unexpected. she jumped down a building, de-attached her scope and spun 360 degrees and made a shot."[Fubuki]
"Why would anyone do that"[Edge]
"Nobody knows why but after that incident, the ghost never appeared on the battlefield."[Fubuki]
"Some people said that it was pure luck that she made the shot hit but there are also people who think it was pure skill and experience she had that lead her to hit."[Fubuki]
"And how does this story had to do with my name besides the absurdness of the shot."[Edge]
Fubuki smiles and looks at me with genuine eyes.
"Because I think it's both. She managed the shot with her own skills and depended on her luck to hit."[Fubuki]
"When I first saw you I thought you were just lucky that the reaper took you in but after knowing you, I too believed that you have the skills to back it up."[Fubuki]
"Thanks hehe"[Edge]
"And that's why I gave you that name because I hope you'll be always lucky but skilled too."[Fubuki]
"Why do you all keep giving me strange names that make sense?"[Edge]
"Because that's the only way we know how to express ourselves. Like me, through memes"[Fubuki]
Fubuki made a smug look again and I realized what she meant.
"I KNEW IT! IT BECAME A MEME DID IT?!"[Edge]
"YA-BE"[Fubuki]
Fubuki started dashing at full speed and I chased after her in the palace.
"A-chan Help!" [Fubuki]
A- chan walks out of a corner Fubuki ran into and blocked my path.
"Help me out A-chan ! It was Fubuki ! She's the one that has been eating your snacks at the break room."[Edge]
"YOU SNITCH!"[Fubuki]
"KISAMA! you faqing thieving cat! "[A-chan]
A-chan is scary, she looks seriously scary right now. I might die if she knows I am an accomplice too. She grabs hold of me and we walked into the corner she came out from. After turning into the corner we ended up seeing Fubuki face to face. Fubuki executed a sliding dogeza in an instant after seeing us.
"GOMENASAI! I didn't mean it, besides Edgelord took some too! "[Fubuki]
I feel A-chan gripping my shoulder weighting like a mountain. With a dangerous smile, she spoke to us in a chilling tone.
"Then how about all 3 of us have a good talk in the break room, shall we?"[A-chan]
