Chapter 44

"Who is this mysterious vigilante? What are the government plans?"

On the news, an interview that has been rerunning for the past week played. It switched between the president and various congress personnel. There they addressed how his actions were great, but also unlawful. For one to hold so much power, yet be unknown. The topic was naturally the unknown hero who leaves a giant S behind after each save.

"I really wish they would just show the weather already." Liz groaned as it switched to commercial. "We know that heroes are not welcomed but does it have to repeat the same interview every flipping hour?"

"It must be a slow news week." James commented with a shrug.

"Really? That playboy announced he was that tin hero." Liz countered. "Why don't they go shove a mic up his nose? I bet he would love it."

"I'm more glad he rejected the government demands for that tin suit." Jason commented. "One man is bad enough, but an army of them? Two of them managed to destroy an entire street, it wouldn't be a stretch to see an entire city destroyed."

"That may be so, but I am more worried about some of their ideas of dealing with you." Lala chipped in. "If they believe things are going south, I hardly think they would think twice about using their strongest weapon even in heavily populated areas."

"I hope it doesn't come to that." Jason said.

The thought of being blown up by nukes didn't really please him. While he didn't doubt he would survive or if by some chance died, he would resurrect. All the life and destruction it would cause would be the worst pain he felt ever.

"On to a less dreadful topic, Jason, how are your classes going?" James asked.

Grateful for the change, "Pretty good, surprisingly easy."

"I would be surprised if it wasn't with your brain. If it even challenged you, then I doubt many humans could complete it." Liz joked from the side.

"Oh, Mother sent over a magnitude of textbooks about various fields of study for you to read. She thought that if you like reading, it might interest you as most are a fair bit more advanced than Earth's current knowledge." Lala said before pulling out a tablet.

Loading it up, Jason's face went blank as what appeared wasn't the lock page nor the homepage. Instead it was what appeared is the manga of a hero who didn't fight in front but empowered his women he slept with. Turning the screen off, he looked at Lala's blushing face.

"Haha, wrong tablet." She said as she pulled out a second one.

Opening it again a list that seemed to go on forever appeared with various textbooks. From history and children's books to advanced fields of physics appeared before him. There was even a folder for tips on deviluke's childcare with a small note.

'For the future.'

"Thanks Lala."

--

While sitting in class as the professor explained the lesson, Jason wrote down some notes here and there about it. In truth he probably won't ever look at them again as he is basically unable to forget anything. It was more so to seem like he was blending in and in case someone wanted his notes later on.

Once class was done and he began packing up, he found a girl a few years older than him waiting outside. Her platinum hair stood out most to him instead of her casual outfit that still showed off her beauty. When he locked eyes with her, it was a bit saddening to see blue eyes instead of her lovely striking green eyes looking back.

"Hello, Miss Hardy."

Blinking in surprise, almost like she didn't believe he should know her. She seemed trying to remember where they met before, only to give up after being unable to remember.

"You gave me a campus tour a few months ago." Jason took pity on her.

Accepting his words as she vaguely recalled it. "Do you have time for a coffee? I have a small favor to ask you."

Humming, Jason looked at his watch and still had about an hour before his next class. "I do have time."

--

"..And so, she should be coming for a 'interview' in a couple days."

While sitting on a swivel stool in the lab, Jason talked about his day with Lala. Beside them, the computer was currently running yet another simulation. This time on what appeared to be a hoverboard.

"How was your day?" He asked once he finished.

"Same old, same old. Worked on a few ideas, had lunch with Liz and kept an eye on Kelly. She hasn't done anything really suspicious either." Lala shrugged.

"Well, I had Lilith do some electronic digging. It turns out her real name is Maria Hills and she appears to be an agent for a secret government group. Our best guess is she is here to monitor you before attempting to recruit you." Jason shrugged.

Frowning at the thought, "If I wanted to, I could just join my planet research and development department. So why would I want to join an unknown group?"

"Well, the group's goal is to protect the planet from threats like alien invasion or rampaging beasts." Jason filled her in. "I wouldn't really worry about it though. If they learn of your identity as a princess, they shouldn't dare attempt to force your hand."

"I guess, but I don't really like using my title like that." Lala replied as she looked over the simulation that just finished.

Jason could only shrug as it was the easiest and less troublesome way to reject the offer. While he would doubt Shield would give up a brilliant mind like Lala. They shouldn't push too hard either to annoy her or harass least she calls upon her father.

In the end he dropped the topic for the time being as they switched gear to the board. After a few adjustments and trials and errors, they managed to cut the errors and fires down by half. Still it required a bit more work before it was ready for a prototype to be built.
