Chapter 8

Lello, is gifted with high intelligence, at the age of sixteen when he was in high school, he was already supporting him and Nally. He started working as an administrative assisant to a man whose company is on the verge of bankruptcy. And his intelligence and skills saved this company, so even though he is still in college, he can support their needs.

"Big brother, can I asked you something?" Nally called the attention of Lello. She was quietly reading her book using her finger tips, while Lello is studying some papers at the living room.

"Sure, about what?" Lello answered without looking at his sister.

"Do you have any news about dad?"

Lello suddenly stopped and looked at Nally.

"Why are you suddenly asking about him?", he tried to control his anger as he heard his sister asking about that man.

"Please don't be angry, its just that...I... I... kind of missing him..." she said in a low voice. She knows how his brother hates their father, but she doesn't know why. All she knows is that their father doesn't want to be with them.

"I don't know, and I don't want to know. Nally, are you not happy with me?"

"No! No, it's not like that. Please don't be angry, I just wanted to know why he's not with us.", her voice cracked and is full of sadness. Lello is mad, but he can't take hearing his sister's sad voice.

"I'm sorry. But please don't mention him again. We don't need him, we've been living by ourselvers for many years, so we don't need him in our lives. And he doesn't even want to do anything with us." he held Nallys hand and comforted her.

"I know. I am sorry big brother."

"It's alright. It's getting late, I think it would be best for you if you would rest now. I'll tuck you in."

"Ok." Sge nodded and put her arms around Lello's neck as he carried her towards the bedroom. He gently place Nally on the bed and tuck her in.

"Goodnight Nally." He kissed her on the forehead before heading to the door.

"Goodnight."

Lello stood in front of the window and looked at the darkness of the night as memories flashed back.

"Father!" Lello shouted at his father who is walking towards the operating room.

"Where is your mother and sister?"

"They are still inside, please save them!" He's father is about to go inside the operating room when the door suddenly opened.

"Doctor Claveria" the doctor wearing a blue hospital gown greeted.

"How's my wife and daughter?" he asked. The doctor then suddenly shook his head slowly, indicating that something bad happened.

"I am sorry doctor, we did everything we can, but your wife loss too much blood. Her blood type is rare so we do not have stock on our blood bank and your son doesn't match her blood type. Only your daughter has the same blood type as your wife but she was also in a critical condition. We were not able to save your wife but we were able to save your daughter. However, she might lose her sight because of the accident. I am so sorry.", then the doctor went away.

Lello suddenly lost all of his energy and slumped on the floor. His father lost all the light in his eyes.

"Why were you late? Why didn't you came when you promised you will be with them?" Lello asked full of hatred. Nally had a school presentation, she would play the piano and sing a song so she happily asked her mother and father to come and watch her. Lello happened to be abroad and participating in a math wizard competition and he only went home today. When he gets home, here mother and sister are still on their way home so he patiently waited. He then received the news that his mother and sister were in an accident so he rushed to the hospital with their family driver. He tried calling his father many times but he did not answer his phone. When he finally got through his phone his father had just finish a successful surgery.

"You're a good doctor, in fact, people say that you're the best, but you weren't there when your family needs you. You promised Nally that you are going to watched her perform, why didn't you come with them?! You knew that mom is not a good driver, why did you not go with them?!

His father remained seated still without uttering even a single word. His faced is blank with no hint of emotion, no sadness, no grief, no guilt.

"Let's go and arranged your mom's funeral." he said after a few minutes of silence.

"That's it? That is all you can say? Your wife is dead! Mom is dead! And my sister just turned blind, and that is all you can say?!" Lello shouted, full of hatred.

"What do you want me to say then? What do you want me to do? I can't do anything to bring your mom back to life!" he's father said bluntly.

"You're useless." Lello said coldly and walked towards the ICU where his sister is confined.

After the funeral of his mother, they seemed like they also lost their father. He seldom went back home and stayed in the hospital most of the time. When he's at home, he does'nt talk to both Nally and Lello, or even pay attention to them. Since his father married his mother who was from a poor family, the family of his father disowned them and cut all ties with them. With their mother gone, they were left alone. Since Nally has lost her sight, she seldom utter a word. She only smiles at him whenever Lello's talking to her. The doctor said that Nally might be blaming herself for their mother's death. Lello was so angry with his father as her sister needs treatment but he is not even checking on her while he is one of the best doctor in the country, so he confronted him.

"Why are you like that?" he asked his father when he came home after a month. His father glanced at him with out saying anything.

"Why are you not checking up on us? Why are you not even treating Nally? The doctor said that if she undergoes surgery, she might be able to see again, but why are you not treating her? She's not uttering a single word, she only smiles when I talked to her. The doctor said that she might be blaming herself about mom's death. Why are you not comforting her?" He gave a questioning look at his father and waited for his answer, but he was shocked with what he heard next.

"I have other important things to do. If you have nothing more to say, you may go."

"What did you say?" Lello asked shocked.

"I said leave! I have got nothing to do with that so leave me alone!" his father shouted.

Lello was shocked with his words and he got angry.

"So you don't have anything to do with us? Fine! We will leave you alone!" he stormed out of his father's study room and walked out of that house, out of his life, with his sister.

Lello clenched his fist out of anger with the rush of memories.

From that day on, he promised to himself that he will take care of his sister and not going to contact their father anymore.
