That night, when he dropped her at her place and gave her a good night kiss on the cheek, she walked into the flat with a heavy heart and a lot of thoughts running through her mind. She was surprised to find Denver there on a Friday evening, sitting at the kitchen counter doing some schoolwork.
"Hey," she said with a low voice as she came behind him and dropped her arms lazily around his neck. She laid her cheek on his shoulder and he laughed softly at the unexpected affection.
"What's this?" he asked, removing her hands from around his neck to that he could turn around on the stool and face her.
He saw the sad look on her face and gestured for her to take a sit on the stool next to him. "What's up? What's wrong?"
"Nothing," she said, looking down and smiling weakly when she stared at his socks and slides that she still had on.
"How was your sleepover?" he tried again and saw her smile with a faraway look on her face.
