I could just say I mistakenly took your phone and read your texts

I could just say I mistakenly took your phone and read your texts. Oh, and I replied to them as well. No biggie.

Who am I lying to? It's a big deal. Last time I read a girls texts, Laura to be specific, she basically promised to castrate me and feed slowly me to the piranhas while she hot-waxed my chest. I still shudder at the thought.

"What's with the face?" Kira asks as she leans on the counter, startling me. Kira doesn't look like the one to commit such a crime, but I won't be so blind. She can have a few surprises if she wanted to.

"Uhm," I start as I rub my neck and think of an excuse. "Can I quickly see your phone?" That's the smartest idea I have right now. If I 'see' her phone, I can hand hers back to her. And what about the read messages? She can kill me later then.

"Why?" she asks as she gives me a scrutinising look.

"I just have something I want to see," I lie. "It'll be quick," I add.

"Okay," she says as she pulls my phone from her front pocket. She doesn't inspect it on when she extends her hand to me. Come to me, my pretty!

It's like a slow motion exchange: I reach for it with my hand with a proud smile because my plan is going, well, according to plan. The phone rests on my palm and as soon as she's about to release her hold on it when...

~Let's talk about sex, baby! Let's talk about you and me. Let's talk about all the good things And the bad things that may be~

Oh my- Kill me now!

Kira's face is priceless as she takes 'her' phone back. She chuckles at the ringtone and slides across the screen. "It's Ryan," she mouths to me before putting the phone on speaker. Just what I needed. I thought he was with Lyha. Why's he calling?

"Hey there," Ryan's voice says from the distance.

"Hi," Kira replies.

"Uhh, is this Kira?" Ryan asks and I mentally face palm.

"Yeah, why?"

"I like you and all but can I speak to the owner of the phone?"

"Speaking," she gives me a confused look.

"Oh, so you and Kian are one or what?"

"If you wanted to speak to Kian, why didn't you just call his number?"

Oh, he did Kira. He did.

"I think the faint from earlier made you a bit confused," he pauses. "This...is...Kian's...number," he slowly explains. Kira shots me a glare before it finally dawns on her. She looks at the cover and frowns for a moment before she bursts out laughing.

"I think you have a call," she says with her head held down. I slide her phone on the counter and go to the living room to answer Ryan and tell him off.

"You are such a fucktard, you know that?" I ask Ryan over the phone. He just laughs. "Why'd you call?"

"I can't just call to see how my best man is doing?"

"What do you want, De Mont?"

He chuckles in the distance. Did I forget to mention that Ryan doesn't like holding his phone against his ear? He has this weird phobia that the phone will explode or something if he holds it too close. So yes, he answers all his calls via speaker.

"So Lyha," he says and I hum in response. "I don't know what to think, man!"

"Would you look at that?" I tease. "There's something Ryan doesn't know. Where is the Guinness World Record when you need it?"

"Asshole," he mutters. "I think I'm just charmed by her. It'll pass," he adds lowly. I know who he's thinking of.

"I hope not," I rub my temples. I feel so guilty for being jealous of him having his eye on Kira. I'm always telling him to try and date again and then I give him the cold shoulder when he tries to? What kind of best friend am I?

"No, Kian. I won't do that to her. You know I can't."

"I hope Lyha changes you, son," I say. I mean it, too. He deserves to find love again.

"I secretly hope so too," he chuckles and I know he's back to his playful self. "Call you back later. Guess what I'm gonna do?"

"What?" I can't help become curious.

"I'm going to plan my Wednesday's outfit," he whistles.

"Why would you do that?"

"Because that's when Lyha and Dylan start school," he says matter-of-factly.

"Really? Do you perhaps think they are in our class?"

"I am not sure, although I do hope so," he says.

"KIAN!" Kira's angry voice calls me from outside the living room and I hear Ryan laughing his ass off.

"Better get that head start and run," he teases before cutting the call.

"I swear to pancakes your sorry ass is dead!" Kira's voice is closer. I look for a place to run to. If I leave through the second exit, she won't see me. I rush up and open the second door. Oh shoot!

"Why the heck would you read my text messages?!"

"It wasn't intentional," I truthfully tell her as I walk backwards.

"Not intentional? Then you even replied to them?" she's definitely not buying my excuse.

"I'm so sorry," I say too quickly. "Hit me if you want."

She raises her hand to clap me and I pout. She rolls her eyes and sighs. She drops her arms by her sides in a defeated manner and pinches my cheek painfully.

"Enough, enough," I try to remove her fingers from my face.

"Don't read my texts, okay?" she warns me with a smile. I know better than to go against a girl's warning, especially when it's delivered with a smile.

"I'm really sorry," I tell her and she nods. She turns around and walks towards the stairs.

"Where's mom?" I ask her as I follow her.

"Mrs Grand said she's going to the function at work. There are some cookies in the cooler if you'd like," she says.

"I don't eat junk food, but thanks anyway." She turns to open her door and stands in the entrance. "Don't you think it's about time you called her 'mom' instead of Mrs Grand?"

Whoa, where did that come from? I rub her cheeks and she brushes my fingers away.

"I'm fine calling her Mrs Grand," she whispers and briefly looks down to her feet before meeting my eyes again. I think I might just like her being here. She doesn't seem like she's taking advantage of anything or anyone and she can be a great help if needed. Mom also enjoys her company, from what I can see.

"Alright," I wink at her. "You do know how thrilled she is to have you around, right?"

I also secretly kind of like her being around here. It's only been a matter of days and already she has paved her way into our house. If I'm being honest with myself, I look forward to seeing her more and more each time.

"Yeah," she chuckles, smiling brightly. "Honestly, I was expecting a strict lady."

"I know. Most of my friends are intimidated by her," I run my hands through her hair and she closes her eyes and moans.

"First up, don't moan like that," I poke her cheek and she pouts adorably. Doesn't she know what that does to me? I swear, she can be as dumb as a post sometimes.

"And secondly?" she suddenly asks and I hold her face in both my hands and level my face with hers.

"I will," I hold her gaze and watch her eyes widen a little.

"What do you mean?"

I open her door and usher her in. She unsuccessfully tries to stop me. "Shh," I put my index finger on her perfect lips. The same ones I kissed in the fitting rooms. Well, I didn't precisely kiss her, but same thing. "Just go to bed," I say as I pull her covers over.

She just stares at me and I can't resist the urge to kiss her forehead. I had to kiss one part of her, so why not? I wrap my hands around her waist and she hugs me back tightly.

"You will what?" she whispers in my ear.

"You're too curious," I say as I lean back to look at her. I plant a soft kiss on her cheek very, very close to her lips and she blushes while looking away. "Goodnight." She nods and I close her bedroom door.

I think I should take my own advice and give myself a break as well. I know I haven't really moved on from my relationship with Cara. Speaking of Cara, I wonder what she's up to but I know it's no good. She has been strangely clingy ever since home room.

I close my bedroom door and take a quick, cold shower to attempt clearing my thoughts. After preparing myself for bed, I switch my laptop on. I notice that Cara has sent me 37 emails. That's an impressive amount judging from the previous amount of emails she's sent me before whenever I muted her number.

I open her emails and read the headline: Kira. Just what I needed. "I am so not in the mood for this," I mutter under my breath as I move them to the bin. I really couldn't care less what she has to say about Kira at this point. I like Kira being around and no one will change that.
