Chapter 9: summoned.

Guang didn't seem to care about her dead cold eyes, he said, "I heard you're not into studying as well, do you want to join us," he leaned on the wall beside her, "we can have fun, enjoy youth, you know, that kind of stuff."

'How did he know about this, it's just been a day, how?' It seems like it wasn't really by chance that he targeted her. She thought he targeted her because she was isolated in school and her family in the past, but it seems he was already interested in her.

'Was it just really just a coincidence?'

Lost in her thought, he pushed himself from the wall and casually sneaked his hand around her shoulder. Sensing him nearby, she rolled her head avoiding his hand, not interested," she didn't want to provoke him so soon, but she won't accommodate him either.

"Hoo, you're playing hard, huh," he raised both his hands in surrender, "you will come eventually, though, no hurry," he waved his hand at her as he left.

She calmed down a bit, enough to see things more clearly. She shook her head, 'it can't be,' no matter how vicious he was, his motive was too weak for what happened, he wouldn't need to set her up that bad, and kill even her family, it just didn't add up, 'unless…' someone gave him a stronger motive. Someone close to her might have leaked that information to him. In this scenario, they are just a tool and someone close was the mastermind. But, what would anyone gain by destroying her without taking the supposed wealth?

'Just who could it be?'

The arrow seemed to point at her family again, who else would have a motive and a link to him other than them this early on, especially her sister, she's in this school as well.

'But that can't be,' their relationship was really good.

No, there's her ex as well, it has to be him, he had ill intentions toward her and a link to Guang. No, she had to let her feelings out of this, and It's still too early to conclude anything, she wasn't even sure that the link to the thug's boss was Guang either, even if he was a relative. She just has to keep filling the picture until it becomes more clear.

After the class period ended, Mrs. Fu glared at her before she left, not long after she could hear, "Student Ning Lanru, head to the principal's office immediately, I repeat…"

She expected this to happen, but it was too soon because of Mr. Wang, or Mrs. Fu. 'Whatever,' she took her bag and headed to the principal's office. She knocked on the door.

"Get in," a deep voice clearly came from inside.

Inside was a man in his sixties, he gave off an air of wisdom between his well-kept grey hair, and his fingers crossed under his chin with his elbow on the desk, his calm eyes stared intently at her for a while.

The student in front of him has a calm temperament, she didn't seem the type that usually causes trouble, but he lived long enough to see all kinds of oddities.

"Student, it's just the second day of school, and you're already causing trouble."

"What are you referring to, sir,"

"Not just one teacher reported you, I heard you slept during classes, and were even playing with your phone."

"Sir, I have a serious headache, so I had to sleep."

"What about your smartphone?"

"Sir, I wasn't using it in class, I was in the corridor, and I just used it to study."

"Didn't you say, you have a headache, how come you can study when it's on your phone?" a subtle smirk flashed on his mouth.

"It's different sir, I can't keep up with the teachers' pace, but in my phone, I can take it easy," Lanru smirked inwardly, she didn't dare to show it in front of the principal, though.

A frown appeared on his forehead, they weren't going anywhere with this. Usually, students start apologizing long before thing got this far, he said his voice raising a tad, "why didn't you go see a doctor?"

"I intend to go see a doctor on the weekend, Sir."

"Well, I don't care about your situation, until you get me a medical certificate, you better behave in class."

"What if I hurt myself, Sir," she can't just let it end like this.

The principal had enough, "Little girl, don't get smart with me."

She can only try the last throw of the dice, "would take responsibility if something bad happens to me, Sir."

His brows frowned deeply, it seems this brat really is the real deal, a troublemaker, "you can leave and see a doctor if it's serious as you say, but if you continue this joke, don't blame me if you get yourself expelled."

"I understand," she had to admit, the principal wasn't an easy opponent, 'but remember you're the first who threatened me.'

Dismissed, she left his office. It looked like she had to stop messing around, for now, it was indeed silly, but fun none the least. She remembered some serious trouble would start by the end of the month, she would gather enough material then and threaten the school. She can't wait that long, though. She thought of fainting in class to put the principal on the spot, but it was too much for her, and a doctor might find out. So, she can just get that medical certificate, it would give her some leeway, for a while.

After school her stepmom was waiting for them again, she wasn't alone though, Meili's sister, Mrs. Ping Nuan, was with her. Lanru didn't like her that much, she didn't have any past grievances with her, but she didn't feel good intentions from her. Lanru didn't mind her though, she waited for Meili to introduce her, the latter smiled and said, "Lanru, this is my sister, Nuan, she wanted to see you and join us for shopping."

"Hello Aunt Nuan," Lanru bowed a bit.

"Hello, Lanru, nice to meet you," Nuan smiled at her, "you don't mind me tagging along with you, right?"

Looking at her, Lanru was sure now, back then it was just a feeling, this time she could see her eyes weren't smiling. It was to be expected, though, Meili was the strange one, after all.

"Of course I don't mind, but Auntie," Nuan was even frowning now, but she didn't mind her and looked at Maili, "can we go see a doctor today."

Maili frowned a bit, "are you sick."

"I had a headache and it caused me some trouble in school."

"Of course, let's go."

Mrs. Nuan took her phone, "let me call Dr. Qiao," she made an appointment right away, and they took off. Lanru was surprised, she didn't expect that Nuan would take action, she feared they would go to a different doctor because it was Maili who took her to that doctor before, but when they arrived she was surprised. It was her, the same doctor, she didn't have any strong enmity with her, but she does have a minor grudge to settle.

Dr. Qiao was incompetent, to say the least, she had a serious headache problem in the past, and that's why she used it as an excuse in the first place. But this woman dealt with it casually, she just asked her a few questions and prescribed medication to help her relieve it, saying it was a migraine caused by environmental change, and Lanru has to experiment and find out which change caused it. her diagnosis was likely true because it disappeared later on its own once she left the mansion for university, but doesn't she have to do some examinations first, schedule another appointment, give her some instructions until the problem is solved. She had to suffer for a long time because of that.

She won't deal with her for now, though, she just needs the medical certificate, and she was the perfect doctor to get it from. She didn't disappoint her, Dr. Qiao did her sloppy work just like before, and prescribed her some medicines.

Dr. Qiao stood up to see them out when Lanru said, "Doctor, I need a medical certificate."

"We didn't do a physical examination, so I can't give you a medical certificate,"

"Doctor I really need it, I couldn't listen in class, and it caused me trouble."

Maili chimed in, "Doctor, can't you give her the certificate, it's just for school."

"I'm sorry, Mrs. Ning, things have become strict nowadays."

Nuan caught Meili, and said, "Sister, doctors can even lose their job, it can't be helped."

Lanru really didn't want to deal with her right now, because she wasn't prepared yet, but she just had to make things difficult, "You prescribed me drugs, yet a simple certificate isn't OK, isn't that interesting, doctor."

"Indeed, this is strange," Meili's brows furrowed at her.

Dr. Qiao's face turned white, 'how is this kid so sharp,' she wished she could smack her mouth, why did she have to reject in the first place, she was used to rejecting students pretending to be sick. She couldn't find a way out for herself, so she could only relent, "I misjudged the situation, I had a long day," she sat on her desk, "I'll write you a certificate right now."

"You should have done that from the start," Lanru enjoyed putting some salt on her embarrassment, but this was just the beginning.

Lanru got next to Dr. Qiao, reading the certificate, her brows frowned, "There's a problem here, you wrote 3 days, are you saying my migraine would be cured in just 3 days?"

"Ah, I made a mistake, let me change it."

"Wait, you also didn't explain that I might need to rest at home in case it got serious."

"Right, right, let me add that."

Lanru made Dr. Qiao give her a whole month, with enough liberty on how she wanted to attend school before she was satisfied.
