Chapter 14: lurking threat.

Lanru tried her luck, "maybe not today, I'm a bit tired."

Meili lost her spirit, "Is it the headache again."

"Yeah, a bit."

"It can't be helped, I'll let them prepare something for you to relax, rest well," before Lanru could relax, Meili added, "Let's go tomorrow, OK."

After Meili left, the maid brought her a relaxing tea. Meili had another hobby other than shopping. She liked to drink all kinds of tea, talk about it, and recommended it to others. And Lanru grew fond of her tea in the past.

The next day, Shifan got on her way to class again, he wanted to meet her after school, to have lunch together. She didn't mind, she looked forward to it, to find a way to play another game with him.

After the morning period, he was waiting for her by the freshman exit, but he was on his phone. She could see it was a brand new Huamie, probably the last model at the time. She still remembers this model, it was a huge success. If she had money, it would be a good time to invest in Huamie Inc.

Looking at his phone, she remembered the promise she had with her brother. laugh almost left her mouth as an idea struck her. She grinned at Shifan who just ended his call, "your smartphone is good. Can I take a look," she looked at his phone with obvious greed, it made him sweat, he handed him reluctantly.

After checking for a while, she hugged it, "can we switch our phones? It's a couple thing, you know!"

She took out her old Kimsong S4 and the forced smile vanished from his face. He almost spat blood, "This…"

"Is it too much to ask for, I thought we are to be a couple,"

It took him all his effort to say, "OK," it left his mouth through his grinding teeth, "let me reset it."

"Are you trying to hide something from me?"

His eyes bulged at her, he didn't even care to answer her, he almost gave up on everything and cursed her. Stiff as a rock, he reached his hand to her, "here take it," he left immediately after giving her the phone. He feared he would explode if he stayed any longer.

She took the phone, and shouted, "Wait, let me reset mine as well."

He felt like crying looking at her smartphone, he can't use trash like that, "just keep it as a spare."

"I know you're the best, you're too close to winning my heart, keep it up."

He couldn't deal anymore with her, 'this shameless bitc*,' his long legs carried him away in no time. The girl might like his car next if he took her to eat together. He needs to find another way to deal with her, these things can't continue like this.

It was Saturday, so after school, Meili took them to the Cinema this time. It was good for a change. They ate out after the movie, Lanru was starving, she let her appetite go a little bit too wild to relieve her stress. She regretted it soon, though, she was stuffed and felt discomfort with every step she took.

Back at home, she bid them good night and hurried to her room. The maid brought a package and a drink of tea.

"It's recommended by the Madam to help you digest the food."

The maid, Jia, was tall and unhealthily thin. She was the one who always brought her servings, it wasn't in a good faith, it just happened. Instead, Jia was one of Fanjie's key players. She would look down on her, and find any reason to grumble to herself throwing insults and complaints along the way, maybe that is why she took the duty of serving her. Now that Fanjie is no more, it seems like she was behaving herself. Fanjie was indeed the real problem, but Lanru could still see that look hidden in her face, a look of contempt.

'As long as you leave me alone, I'll leave you alone,' but Lanru won't tolerate her either if she kept that look on her face for long.

Lanru was really staffed; she couldn't add anything else, so she put the tea aside for now and opened the package. She checked it and it had all the products she ordered for her mother. She put the items away and took her smartphone. She couldn't move her body to help her digest, might as well move her brain. She spent her time planning and looking for a way to make money when someone knocked on her door.

"Who is it?"

"Miss, I came to take the tray."

'Why the hell take it so soon, damn it.' she fumbled from her bed, looking left and right, she forgot to drink the tea.

"Wait a second."

She didn't want to turn down something sent by Meili or make any misunderstandings. She tried to gulp it down in one go but threw it back at once. It tasted terrible after turning cold. She went to the toilet of her room but felt bad throwing it there. She emptied the toothbrush cup and poured the tee there for now. She can use it later to water a plant or something.

She handed the tray with a frown on her face,

After that Lanru continued noting down her memories. Sometime later, getting tired, she called it a day and went to sleep.

--------------

CREAK! DRG!

She was jolted awake from her sleep. She pulled the blanket to her chest and looked around, 'what the hell was that.'

CREAK! DRG!

She looked sharply at the door, someone was trying to open it, 'who is it?' Just as she was about to ask, she shut her mouth. Something was off. She checked her smartphone and it was 3 AM. Her heart boomed and her senses sharpened. Why would anyone come to her room in the middle of the night, what's going on? Did this happen in the past, she didn't have a lock, how come she doesn't know about it…

Could it be a thief, she was horrified by the idea, no, no maybe she just thought too much into this, she's just paranoid because of the camera incident, and what happened in her past. She didn't do anything to make a random thief break into her room in the middle of the night. Maybe it's just her stepmom checking on her for whatever reason. She put her legs on the ground ready to go check who it was. But she was still careful.

DRR DRRR

She gasped and her breath stopped this time, her window shaders were shaking, someone was trying to break into her room. She was on the second floor for god sake. She let out a deep breath silently, fortunately, she was careful since the camera incident and locked the windows. She didn't feel secure enough, though, she walked stealthily to the toilet and pulled the door behind her, leaving only a narrow space where her head stuck out.

'Just what the hell is this?'

The biggest problem was, this didn't happen in the past, but why. She didn't do anything too different, something that would trigger a random break into her room. A thief won't target her room specifically. This was someone who came for her personally.

Nothing happened for a while, so she hurried near the side of the window. She took a look through the shaders. No one was on the surface of the windows. That made her more stressed, not knowing where her enemy was the scariest. she got closer with her feet first, and took a look down, she couldn't see anyone again. She went to the other side of the window and took another look. The shadow of what seemed like a man disappearing between the trees, her heart boomed but she felt a bit of relief, at least she saw him leaving.

Not knowing his identity, though, still kept pressed on her chest. She walked back to the toilet and locked the door behind her, she wasn't sure the man wouldn't try anything else. This was the safest place for now. She could wake up the people in the house, but knowing what she knows, she needed to think first, and they may not even believe her.

'Just why? Was someone trying to get back at me?'

Did she already start to change the past beyond recognition? That idea was scarier than what happened tonight. She thought she was in control with her past knowledge, but things could go out of her hands so soon.

'Did I act too hurriedly?'

The only people she provoked were the teachers, Shifan, and Fanjie. She didn't think dealing with them could make a big change. Only Fanjie might hold a serious grudge against her, but this was still pushing it too far.

'Maybe someone is just trying to scare me? Could it be Shifan...'

she shook her head, that was too much risk to just scare her. Looking at her shaking hands, she decided to stop. It was useless to keep thinking, just a painful worry and stress. After all, It could really be anyone, humans are sometimes unpredictable, but it has to be among the people she provoked. She needs to calm down for now. She can check the security cameras in the morning and see if she could find anything.

'Let's try to sleep for now.'

Thinking about Shifan though, an idea came to mind, "wait, what was that dog for, let's make more use of him," hoping he already switched to another smartphone, she made a call.
