The Sky Lights Up

Sweat rolled down Justin's back as he tilled the ground. It was a hot summer day with no clouds in sight. He looked up to see how much ground he had covered.

"Only one more row before I'm done" he thought to himself. "Then I can plant these seeds"

Two hours later, Justin looks down at the freshly tilled and planted row.

"Finally!" he exclaims to himself."I'm finally done!"

He always hated farming, but it was a means to an end. His parents passed away a few years ago and left him the farm. Now farming was the only thing that made enough money to pay the bills.

Justin puts up all his tilling tools and covers his tiller in a tarp. His father used to always get onto him about maintaining and protecting his farm tools. "They are your livelihood son" he always said. Justin never wanted to find out in his absence how true that was. Heading to the house he took a shower, washing off the days sweat and grime. After raiding the kitchen and devouring leftover spaghetti, he went into his bedroom and cranked up his laptop.

The laptop was the newest and most modern thing in the farmhouse. Justin had always been a bit of a nerd, finding more comfort in the distractions of video games than those of real life.

"let's see...what to play tonight" he murmurs to himself as he scrolls through his games. Finally deciding on a game after minutes of searching he clicks to start the game up. Watching th loading screen of his latest rpg game he decides to grab a cup of water while he waits.

"Can't wait to work on my healer build. I wonder if I should go for a mage healer or a tank healer...what the hell" he suddenly grumbles as he looks at the screen when coming back.

"The screen is all screwed up"

He grabs the mouse and starts mashing the clicker but nothing happens as he looks at the distorted image of the laptop. The streaks of random colors and shapes overlapping the frozen screen are strangely organized. Almost as if...as if it's words and letters.

Justin narrows his eyes and leans closer. BAM...RUMMMMBLE

Just as he does there is a loud bang outside followed by the entire house shaking. A blinding light begins to beam in through the window in his room and the whole room lights up. As he panics he starts hearing a whining high pitched sound, paired with a growing headache.

"Ahhhhh!!" he screams clutching his head. "What the fuu...." He drops to the floor, unconscious and unable to finish his sentence.

It's hours later when he finally opens his eyes.

"What the hell WAS that" he groans "what happened."

"I need to check outside and make sure the farm is ok" he drags himself to his feet as he gets up and moves to the front door. Just as he reaches for the door handle a headache pulses through him, sending him to his knees.
